I knew you had both. Just wanted to hear why you liked it better. I have an "old" 425 AWS that I also mow and snow plow with. I have a bigger Kioti CK25 that I bought 3 years ago. When the guy delivered it he said: "I guess you won't be using that Deere to move snow anymore." To which, I replied: "Oh yes I will, that little Deere will plow circles around that big tractor in the tight spaces that I have to work in."

And I'm still convinced of this. I wish it had 4WD like the X749. I was asking because I thought I might want to replace it with a subcut, like the 2305. But, like you, the size of the garden tractor is just way more nimble. Maybe when I wear out the 425 an X749 might be in my future. Just not sure it'll ever wear out, 15 years and counting.

Sorry if I mis-interpreted your question.
I had a 425AWS at one time also but I replaced it with a 455AWS just cause I wanted a diesel, I keep that at my "up-north" place to cut the grass and pick up the pine needles.

I hope you are a young man because if you're waiting for the 425 to wear out it will be a while

You can tell times are getting hard. A local guy is selling a 455 AWS with a 60" mower and only 950 hours on it. He is asking less than $2500! It looks real clean and well cared for. A year ago you couldn't touch it for under $4000. Sure wish I had the extra cash. I'd buy it and sell mine when the economy improves. Though I do like the quietness of the gas. It is a very quiet tractor even at full throttle.

All JD 455's are diesel. If it were gas it'd be a 445 (Kawasaki, fuel injected 22 hp) or a 425 (Kawasaki carb 20 hp).
