I converted my shop from Kerosene to Propane space heating and have about 15 gallons of surplus clean/fresh K1 Kerosene. I know Kerosene and Diesel are very closely related fuels. Can I gradually blend in some Kerosene with Diesel and use it up in my older JD's (ie 1070 and 455)? If so, what would be a safe/conservative ratio?

Yes you can, if you buy fuel in the winter in will often have kerosene blended in it already. I'd probably limit it to 20% kero but that's a guess on my part. Kero is a little "dryer" than diesel so you could blend it at a higher ratio but might want add something like 2 stroke oil.

I have done that to use up extra kerosene as the salamander heater likes fresh fuel. But I only ran maybe 5% or so.

Old Ford F-350 7.3 IDI diesel said in the owners manual that you could. It is out back but at 20% you would be safe in the truck.

fine for winter blend ( flows better ) at up to 10 percent ... must add 2 stroke oil for lube to offset....

Yup, cut it this winter

Makes goods parts cleaner too

My winter mix is 3 gallons diesel, 2 gallons kero. If I have any space heater kerosene left in the spring, I put it in the tank a quart at a time to use up.

Is there a rule of thumb for how much 2 stroke oil to add?

i think i'd go stanadyne or power service before 2 stroke oil.. if it was an on roader anyway.

yeah, I would side with using a good fuel additive with lubricity if burning some kerosene mix. Depends on how old the engine is as to whether I would just use 2 stroke oil. Some of the newer diesel engines with insanely high injector pressures and common rail delivery systems do not take as kindly to home brew remedies as the older engines used to. Schaeffer Oil has a very good lubricity improver they sell that is soy based.

Yes you can, boys back home will often do this to gain a few more rpms to get done quicker.
