There are no ordinances that can not be overturned, rescinded, or nullified. It happens every day.
vote!
Rules are made by those who show up!
I agree with you completely and I have made a difference by working locally and on a state level by running for office, organizing against a nuisance ordinance, and organizing against putting meters on private wells. I was in the State Capitol making a presentation in front of 1,000 live people and closed circuit connections around the State. I helped found and run a corporation to organize all private well owners in the state to stop the government from stealing private water rights.
But the fact is people are lazy and tend to vote party lines if they vote at all. They are afraid to take a stand unless it affects them directly and then they get all indignant about their, so called, rights. It's difficult to get people to do anything for themselves, which makes it difficult to do anything to improve all of our lives.
Many folks don't have a clue about how their government even works. One time they'll vote for somebody who will do nothing and the next time for someone who wants to destroy the system.
The power we have is in the ballot box. Voting is not a guess as to who will win, it's not a chance to deliberately wreck the system, it's not a chance to be vindictive. It's a chance to control our own future, clear out corruption and work together for a greater good. Government is simply a mechanism that allows a community to work together to accomplish something we all need. When it becomes an entity whose main interest is taking care of itself and promoting positions, it is out of control. When people fall for that, they have let it run their lives and allowed themselves to become victims. When they are victims they have no control over their lives and make decisions from anger or ignorance or fear. Elected officials serve at our pleasure. They are only there to do our business as we see fit and can be replaced anytime, but do you see it happening, even with the discontent?
There is a lot of simple psychology involved that goes beyond mentioning here and the masses fall for it hook line and sinker. Much of the time, against their own interests. Experienced politicians know this game well.
Unfortunately, the secretive way government is run makes it easy to dupe the masses and lead them around by their noses. It's the power hungry, the dishonest and the carnival barkers that bubble to the top and get elected. The spin they espouse tricks or plays the voters and another cycle starts.
Then you have someone complaining about the size of a sign, the color of a house, the color of a neighbors skin. The division distracts from the real problems and excites fear. That is when the power is gone. Fear and division are much easier to deal with than a united front. Pay no attention to that war your son is fighting in! Forget that, let's go to the game! Who's your favorite team?
Leaders? Where? I don't see them. I see fear mongers and power hungry egos.
