The can is manufactured by Blitz and if you desire they still make the metal jerry type cans, price is up there and they will dent. You have to be careful with what ever type of fuel can you use. I looked at the caddy type tank, but at the time I figured it was just too big for what I need. I just don't go through that much fuel with the tractor.

WayneB has a good point. I opted not to go with the bigger caddy for those exact reasons. 1) The next size available caddy was 25 gallons and was made of steel making considerable heavier. 2) 14 Gallons was roughly 3 fills which will last me a couple of months.

I've been flirtin' with the 25+ gal caddies for a while, but had the same concerns about weight, transporting, durability of hose/pump, etc.

But you make a good point about the 14 Gal there Old School - is the hose and pump pretty solid? I just picture potential leak points......

I have two of the fueling handles and there pretty good but the hose clamps suck, I replaced them with real hose clamps. If your going to gravity feed only than you might want to go with one of the aluminum fueling handles but then you have the problem with hose size fittings. The nice thing is the fueling handles are rate to pump two gallons a minute, that pretty optimistic but do transfer relatively fast and when you let go of the handle the fuel stops flowing.

Get a five gallon can. Diesel weighs seven pounds per gallon so that's about 37 pounds. And get a battery powered kerosene transfer pump. Set the can on your tractor seat and expect a transfer of about one gallon per minute.
No fuss or mess.

Or, drive tractor up next to fueling area and squeeze handle while gravity feeding fuel into tank, release trigger on handle and put fueling hose away.

ragkar, I'm not trying to give you a hard time but what brought me to the fuel caddy was I was tired of dragging around gas cans that would inevitably leak diesel whether it be during the refueling of the gas can, during the ride in the back of my truck or while refueling the tractor. A good gas can thats easy to handle and doesn't leak gonna cost. The plastic 5 or 6 gallon ones work great for a while at best. Even a simple holding tank with a gravity feed line would be better than the simple gas can.

I went with the 5 gallon plastic jug with the spillproof spout. Under $20 at TSC. Remember to ask around for the best diesel in the area. I've heard complaints about some diesel statons so I ask truckers who is good. I was under the impression that Hess did most of the refining up here in the NY metro area, I guess some vendors either have dirty tanks or mess with the kerosene blend.

I use a rotary pump and a 16 gallon drum. I have a 7 foot hose on the rotary pump so with one hand I put the hose in the tank and the other hand will turn the pump. Easy as pie. The "B" series tractors are very hard on your back as the fuel tank is high and in the middle of the hood. 5 gallon can is very heavy and I used to spill all over the tractor. Much better and cleaner this way.

It depends on where you store your fuel. If you store it in your garage in your home then the yellow metal can is the way to go. Because during a fire the can will not fail and spill the fuel also the lid will raise to relief the internal pressure to prevent the can from exploding.

If you store the can in a shed or a building away from your home then a plastic can if fine. Diesel fuel is a combustible not a flammable liquid so the hazard is much less then gasoline.

What I do is use a pump like this one to move the fuel to the tractor. I raise the seat up, put the can on top of the fuel tank, and use the pump to transfer the fuel, nice and easy on the back. By the way I would NEVER use this type of a pump with gasoline. The battery/motor is a source of ignition, results in a large bang, followed by a large flame ball, and a very bad day.:D Wally world has then for about $10 or so.

Liquid Transfer Pump - Battery Operated Liquid Transfer Gas Water Siphon Pump

I use the yellow plastic cans from Wally World and use a similar battery operated pump I purchased from Lowes. The pump is for filling kerosene heaters.

FWIW.....

For diesel fuel I have two TSC yellow plastic specials and they work great for me. Likes been said the BX fuels from the rear fender and is very easy access.
On the occasions I don't feel like holding the can up to fuel, I'll set the can on the tank (seat flipped up) and use one of those manual ciphon pumps (made for kerosene heaters). Just close the valve and give the pump handle a few squeezes and she'll flow 'till one opens the valve. Course the basic rules of gravity flow applies :D
I have 4 well marked manual ciphon pumps, one for gas, one for diesel, one for kerosene and one for water.
I've always said I'd go with one of those battery operated jobs but these ole manuals just keep on working like the little energizer bunny :D

Anyways, if your gonna have to heft and hold a can whilst refilling I'd recommend going with a lighter weight plastic can. If not a metal can will work out fine too.
I've got both and the oldest of both types are well over 10 yrs old.

At 1/2 GPH usage I don't need to much diesel. I found a blue kero jug for free and I bought a red one from wally world (why pay more for yellow?????). I spray painted some yellow on it and no way I'll mix it up. Once you get past the self venting they are ok. The little hook to hold it on the filler cap is nice. Holding 7 gallons I only refill it when I can dump a full 5 gallons in there.

If these are getting to heavy you can get the smaller 2 gallon or 2.5 gallon plastic jugs. Yes there are 2 now but they are lighter to handle. 4 gallons is still 8 hours of run time for me. At least a month and a half.

Good Luck,
Rob
