I've been flirtin' with the 25+ gal caddies for a while, but had the same concerns about weight, transporting, durability of hose/pump, etc.
But you make a good point about the 14 Gal there Old School - is the hose and pump pretty solid? I just picture potential leak points......

I own a 28 gallon gas caddy for my boats and snowmobiles which works great with the hand pump, but I use the following attached for my tractors, both gas and diesel. They really work great. If I use a lager container than the 5 gallon shown. I just attach a longer hose to the bottom of the pump. It isn't really fast, but it is neat and easy. Oh ya, I got them from Northern Tool & Equipment Northerntool.com :)

You guys with the yellow plastic spill proof cans- does your can stop flowing? Mine does it all the time..I get the glug, glug, glug ..i hate it! It takes 5 mins to empty the can. I know that there is a plastic breather inside, but I think mine is deffective.

Not sure if this is the correct forum but, is there any factual basis for not storing fuel cans on concrete floors? I've heard it many times, but can't understand why that would be more susceptible to moisture contamination. Anyone have a truthful explanation?

Never heard of that but a concrete floor probably stays colder. My concrete floor in the summer is actually wet on hot humid summer days and I imagine a can sitting on the floor would be the same. If the can if full or the non vented type I don't imagine it's much of a problem these days.

My business is radio controlled racing cars and we use a blend of methanol, nitro methane and oil for fuel. The bottles are high density polyethylene but not fluorine treated (same as most fuel bottles) as such they breath due to temperature and pressure changes. Due to the hydroscope nature of methanol and fuel in general the bottles will expel volatiles and inhale moister laden air. Increasing the water content of the fuel (not good).
That doesn't answer the original question but it explains the mechanism. When a concrete floor sweats it places liquids in contact with plastic and promotes more water contamination. We store fuel on metal shelves in a heated, humidity controlled environment.
This makes a case for metal jerry cans doesn't it? Personally I only purchase fuel when I'm about to need it and try not to store it. The worst offender is a half filled container so in the case of methanol I transfer it into the correct size container to avoid large air spaces.

5 sequential replies on the same thread must surely be a new record for TBN.

No, Brown has done more than 5 previously.

Several of my neighbors have 100-250 gal. elevated tanks that a local fuel company comes out and refills when needed. Surely would be nice!!

Yes it will stop. BUT if I adjust the height of the can (usually up) the flow will start again. With some practice (I'm approaching 200 hrs since mid-Aug) I find that I can cause the breather mechanism to bubble continuously which seems to make it empty faster:)

Maybe that's the problem. You did do your fuel can break-in maintenance at exactly 50 hrs didn't you :D
