For years before I finally had my driveway done, I used to mix #2 diesel (back when it was cheap) and dirty motor oil to keep the dust down and to kill the weeds along the drive. That really did the job...if they catch you doing it now they'll lock you up and throw away the key.

Mustang...Yeah but also now diesel is more expensive than Roundup..even the off road...I did the same:)

I can remember when they had a truck and a pipe drop system on the rear that would dish out the oil real thick on the dirt roads. But looking back it was so much overkill...Id love to ride my bike in it and spin out.

Yep and I remember the mosquito spray trucks that would come by and spray all that stinky chemical to kill the mosquitoes and the smell of the DDT on my Uncles farm in the Mississippi delta....that was a smell I still remember. Termites went crazy and ate more houses when they outlawed Chlordane. I do remember the trucks that dropped the used oil on the dirt roads.

*The county used them for decades here on the gravel county roads to leep the dust down .
In my opinion the messy oil was a bigger problem than the dust *

*** What always got me about this is an individual could get raked over the coals for spilling a quart of oil on the ground but the county was allowed to dump thousands of gallons of oil on the roads.

Did I mention that that our wood stove burns 5 cords of wood a year, just to keep warm !:licking:
Not only that but I whacked down 12 oak trees last summer for more fire wood.

That reminds me that Dad would cut up trees that would make logs and someone asked why they used those trees for firewook. He told them because they split good. :)

That was back before people had log splitters.

Hmmm...oak wood and wood stoves. I burn firewood, too. I have thought about that, also. I think it is pretty "green" to me. Trees are a renewable resource, not like the other fossil fuel energy options. The energy from the sun is released in that fire, and the CO2 is needed by the plants to grow in the summer.
