One thing is clear --- if no one complains --- (or as Robert likes to view it; whines) the discriminatory pricing policy that Deere has enacted will continue.

In the US, if you believe that a company has or is currently utilizing a "business strategy" (i.e. CHEATING, etc) and therefore, there may be a legal question regarding said practice -- consumers can "WHINE" to their State or Federal Attorney General's office.

I'd be on the phone to the corporate folk's. And I'd drop a dime, to my AG's office; for a legal opinion...

My $0.10 cense..

How is what Deere did discriminatory? Dealers use to have Sales territories where they are not allowed to sell in other dealers areas. How is this any different?

You are right though, if you do not like how a business is ran here in the US you contact the Attorney Generals office and they will address the problem. I would imagine Canada has a similar avenue to address these types of situations.

Even if you buy it in the US don't you get hit with a huge import tax. I buy stuff from a guy in Canada (company is also us based, he lives there), says they check pretty good even on the smallish stuff. Says if you get caught bringing something in you get flagged in the system and they will look closer at you from then on. He says it's not something the average Canadian wants.

We have an offshore company, 33% import duties. We still ship stuff over there becuase we can usually get it 5 times faster, and the price still works out to about the same, or close enough.

I would be interested to hear what others think of this. I know what I think but its not appropiate for print.

It seems that last week JD head office issued a very firm order that any US dealers must charge Canadians a 7% surcharge when they buy in USA for export back to Canada. Apparently the 7% goes to JD ( not to the dealer) What they will do with it is a big question

JD quote all kinds of BS to justify the policy but its clearly a reaction to Canadian dealers whining about sales going to USA dealers because of the current exchange rates.

Kubota has apparently taken it a step further with Kubota USA and Kubota Canada. Buy a Kubota USA model and Canadian dealers cannot get reimbursed for warranty work, and vice versa.

I agree that it stinks that now that the CDN $ is stronger, you guys up north are still paying the upcharges that you paid back when the dollar was stronger. And by the same token, I've seen a big jump in prices down here on Canadian made products.

In my view the discriminatory part comes in when the OEM charges a US dealer a lower price for the same product than they charge to a CDN dealer (after correction for any currency exchange difference) How does this benefit the OEM? To enhance the bottom line! Why do they do this? Because they can! As stated previously, that's exactly the answer I got from GM when I contacted them on more than one occassion.

Regardless of this latest 7% twist, if the OEM's sold to the dealers for the same price, competition would be at the dealer level and a lot of the impetus for cross border shopping would not even exist.

There are no "import duties" as such on the purchase of a new or used tractor. There are Federal and Provicial Sales Taxes need to be considered - as they would on a direct CDN sale. It is the price differential on the original sales price that most are complaining about - not some attempt to avoid taxes.

The tractor market is much smaller than for cars, so it may be more of an uphill battle to effect change. On the car side there have been significant price changes reflective of market feedback. The playing field is still not level, but at least there has been a start.

Likewise I can buy another brand!

Clearly you dont care for the treatment JD is giving so that should be a 'clue'. Youre on the right track in that final stmt. Go w/ a maker you can work w/ and be done w/ it. Any of the big brand tractors is going to get the job done. Expressing your displeasure here I dont think is going to make any real diff for your situation. A letter (w/ enclosed pictures) to JD indicating why you choose not to buy from them might be more productive...then again maybe not. In the end though youll have what you need, at a price youre willing to pay w/ a co that wants your business. If youre one of the 'bleeds green' types then you have no recourse...just pay the price and be done w/ it. :)

Thats what my former business partner used to say and practice. Now he is bankrupt and broke!

I'm struggling a bit with a couple of replies on this thread. Are there only certain opinions that are acceptable to be expressed here?

How many threads have there been regarding the price of diesel? How about the cracked Kioti loaders? How about the 50 -60 posts about the poster that didn't get his used tractor washed by the dealer before delivery?

Did anyone tell Scott55 to stop "whining" about the price of US drugs?

One letter to JD might not be productive, but maybe if the matter is discussed here and 500 letters got sent as a result - maybe that might make a difference.

Thats not new. Its always been that way. Kubota Canada and Kubota USA are two seperate companies.

I do have a feeling that this conversation would sound very different if it was cheaper to buy in Canada and you guys had to pay more. :D

Not sure what youre struggling w/. Its fine to vent here but that doesnt effect any real change. JD is going to do what JD wants to do. Maybe a letter to them will produce the result you want but probably not. Same for 500 or 1000 or ... I wouldnt hold up my life waiting for them to come around to your POV. A tractor just isnt worth getting all worked up about. :) There are plenty to go around and they all work pretty much as intended. The best idea is to find someone who has what you want at a price youre willing to pay and be done w/ it. While venting here might make you feel better its doing nothing to put a tractor seat underneath your rear end. Right? Same for the high price of fuel etc etc. :)

Maybe but maybe not....Ive never had real good success w/ JD salesmen. Its that overly expensive green paint and deer logo that catches us up every time. :D After all its just a tractor.... :D
