I do have a feeling that this conversation would sound very different if it was cheaper to buy in Canada and you guys had to pay more. :D

Sorry, missed the logic on that one. If it was cheaper to buy in Canada then US buyers might want to purchase north of the 49th. Why would Canadians be complaining?

I think Canadians, what with NAFTA etc, get a bit tired of being shafted both ways by the large corporations. We are told the price for Canadian gas is higher because of the "global market" Ok, if it is a global market then why are green / red / blue / orange tractors more expensive? It becomes hard to buy the "economies of scale" argument when a lot of the product is actually manufactured in CA and then shipped to the US.

They wouldn't, it'd be the Americans complaining since the Canadians are complaining now.

The Kubota CA site seems to clearly say Kubota Canada is a "Distributor" not a Manufacturer and further has the following disclaimer on pages I viewed:

"Kubota Canada and its affiliated companies supply products and services to customers who are residents of Canada. If you seek information regarding products or services outside of Canada please see this listing of Kubota International Offices"

And if that were the situation and Americans were complaining should they be told to "stop whining" as was suggested earlier?

Yes, as I don't discriminate

I'm struggling a bit with a couple of replies on this thread. Are there only certain opinions that are acceptable to be expressed here?

How many threads have there been regarding the price of diesel? How about the cracked Kioti loaders? How about the 50 -60 posts about the poster that didn't get his used tractor washed by the dealer before delivery?

Did anyone tell Scott55 to stop "whining" about the price of US drugs?

One letter to JD might not be productive, but maybe if the matter is discussed here and 500 letters got sent as a result - maybe that might make a difference.

The OP asked what others think, I express my opinion. Jimg expresses his and we are told we are wrong. Then I say the OP should stop whining and you take off on that but the OP can say the Canadian dealers are whining which is what caused this problem so that is ok:rolleyes:

If the OP would have asked for ways to address this situation he most likely would have had a lot more help. But when the entire reason for his post is to bash Deere and he even states "Likewise I can buy another brand!" in his original post then what is the purpose of this thread other then to complain, bash, whine whatever. You can pick the word you approve of.

OK Robert. Here is my proposal. I'm going to go and carve the Easter bird and have a few beer. I'm happy with the deal I got on my JD and how I got it.

I'm going to let the OP carry the can for any further opinions on this thread (at least for the rest of the day).

I'm still going to complain / whine etc wherever necessary regarding GM pricing, including directly to GM and for the time being - not going to buy one of their products.

My purpose was to advise others of the new policy and initiate some discussion. Thanks for the input.
I do not need advise on how to deal with the issue personally and did not ask for that.
I only became aware of the facts on the issue last week, I contacted JD Head Office and am waiting for a reply.

Please post what they say when you get their reply.

I just wonder whether it is legal. I would think the government would have ruled that it and it alone has the authority to impose a tariff. Not trying to question good, bad, right, wrong. Just wondering if anyone knows of specific laws, court decisions addressing this issue?
