Car Hauler vs Utility Trailer

Removable fenders are typically an option for car haulers and equipment trailers. It is way easier to work around just the tires sticking up and any light bumps are met with the rubber tire rather than a flimsy fender.

Driveover fenders are also an option on an equipment trailer. That gives you tough enough fenders to take the various forklift bumps without any serious damage.

Loading pallets onto a car hauler from the rear if you have to get it up between the fenders isn't that hard if the fork lift driver has another pallet of product around. (or an empty pallet will work too) You just put the first pallet of goods onto the rear of the trailer, then he uses his forks to push it as far up as he can. Then set another pallet on the deck and use that to push the first pallet up farther if needed. Piece of cake. Or, if you know you're going to get a pallet, take an empty pallet with you to act as a pusher.

I have a solid sided 16' tandem utility with a gate. When I get wood pellets the store has fork extenders that allow them to clear the gate and place the pallets over the axles. There are ways around everything.

Don’t have this problem......but I am curious as to how to get the pallet out when you get home?

Strap/chain to the pallet and pull it out to the edge where the forks will reach. I've pulled many pallets out of vehicles; both the front of a 35' box trailer and out of the front of an 8' truck bed (tailgate and all). Works well.

I went with a deck over. Loading skids and other material is much easier without fenders

If I only had a nickle for every time me or a friend got messed up by fenders.

As mentioned, you can put a chain or strap through one side of the bottom of the skid, around the center support, and back through the other side. Then just slide the skid out.

Or, as we had at my former employer, you can get a pallet puller like these.

I've unloaded thousands of skids from hundreds of semis with these and a forklift. They work great if you don't have a loading dock where you can drive into the truck.

Thanks for all of the replies, and the warm welcome. A deckover is probably out of the question because they豎*e usually overkill for pulling with a half-ton and the cheapest new one I found was about 5 grand. If I buy that I wouldn be able to afford the tractor lol

It sounds like I蛟、l lean towards the car hauler. I螢 add a link but I need two more posts. The one I・ looking at is $1995 for an 18 ft dovetail. Add $200 for a steel deck. They豎*e unbranded but you can order custom trailers from them, so I・ not sure if they make them in house. The place is called Oquinn Trailer in Coeburn VA.

You might give Kaufmann Trailers a call.
They are a major trailer builder located in Lexington, NC.
You can order any size or type from them.
They deliver!

They have an excellent reputation (check their website for feedback).
I do not have one of their trailers.
They have excellent pricing, and being out of state you might avoid sales tax also.

I unload the pellets by hand off the pallet (tongue twister now that I notice it)..40lb bags, not a big deal.
