The saw horse discussion got me searching the internet for ideas,,
I ended up at the Home Depot site,, They had the Husky saw horses on sale for $19.95,,, PER PAIR!!
and the kicker is, they are made in the USA,, (regular $39.95 per pair)

I decided I had to start with the highly rated pre-made set,, I picked them up today,,
after the military discount, I am into these for about $9 each,, that sounds like used yard sale price to me,, :D

Home Depot has a military discount? I thought Lowe's was the only one to do this. I've been missing out!!

That is the strange part. I was just completing a project with my son, we are both right handed. We had to rip / cut a bunch of plywood. He had his saw out, ready to go.... but, it was the typical right sided blade.

I told him I would be right back and got my left bladed saw. After he used it on a couple cuts, he was amazed by how much easier it was to cut on the line! He said the other normal saw was “ stupid “ , he said it was much more difficult to use. He said it would be perfect for left handed people (makes sense). He got a left bladed saw the next week.

I have a left bladed saw and my lefty dad has a right blade saw. We can’t either one use the other saw worth a flip.

We usually made donkeys (saw horses) using three studs cut in half...two of them make 4 legs the other two pieces get nailed together like a "T" for the top...the leg angle is automatic when nailed to the "T"... scrap plywood gussets on the ends...lower cross pieces can be added for a step if the donkeys are being used to hold a walk plank etc...

Hate the plastic horses because they push over too easy...especially when you try to slide a stick of lumber across the top...

A handy saw hanger can be made by simply driving a common framing nail on one of the legs leaving about 3/8"... hang a circular saw by top edge of the guard on the head of the nail...

I’m having a bit of trouble envisioning this. The “T” faces up like normal? And the legs get nailed to the angle between the top horizontal and the vertical part underneath that?

Good simple tip about the nail to hold the saw. I just spent two days picking mine off the ground each tim I needed it.

Unless it has changed this month, HD year-round military discount is only for active duty, retired, or disabled. On several holidays only is a discount available to all veterans.

Thanks. I looked it up and they are pretty restrictive on their discount. I was in the Marines from 83 to 88, so it doesn't look like I get the discount except for a few holidays, and even then, I need to provide my documents at the cash register to get the discount. Lowes is every day, I just tell them my phone number and they take 10% off of what I'm buying. Kind of keeps me going to Lowes more then Home Depot.

No Inverted so the "flat" 2x is on the bottom the one on edge on top...hold the top of a leg about 3/4" down from the top and the edge of the flat one will kick the leg out at a proper angle...

In the pic below the top member is not required...IMO scrap plywood makes better gussets than solid lumber...

overall sizes are arbitrary...

The left handed circular saws are better for left handed use because they keep you from crossing your hands over the blade if youre using the front grip along with the trigger grip. They also keep the waste wood falling off the blade side and the base of the saw stays on the kept piece.

If you use it backwards your hands will cross over the blade and be closer to the blade when sawing and the large side of the foot will be on the waste side that falls off possibly causing the saw to tip over as the piece falls.

Good carpenters use the notches on the front of the foot/base and don't need to see the actual blade. They also can use both hands to work with either type of saw.

It's weird that most plug in saws are right handed but most sub 7-1/4 saws are usually left handed.

Lowes has the "My Lowes" card which makes it very easy to use the discount.
For Home Depot i'm not aware of a similar card and the time I tried to use my DD214 they had no idea what it was and denied the discount. So, take your DD214 to the driver license bureau have them record it and re-issue the driver license, I think it cost something like $11. It will now say "Veteran" on it. Show your new driver license to Home Depot and they'll give you the discount. By the way, the new driver license will work as proof of veteran status in other states for military discounts as well.
