Lowes has the "My Lowes" card which makes it very easy to use the discount.
For Home Depot i'm not aware of a similar card and the time I tried to use my DD214 they had no idea what it was and denied the discount. So, take your DD214 to the driver license bureau have them record it and re-issue the driver license, I think it cost something like $11. It will now say "Veteran" on it. Show your new driver license to Home Depot and they'll give you the discount. By the way, the new driver license will work as proof of veteran status in other states for military discounts as well.

Thanks for the info on the DL. I'm a Viet Vet and have been refused at HD, and that's embarrassing to say the least. They seem to act like you're stealing something! I'll get the DL verification on mine and I hope all Vets do the same. Maybe that'll make up for a few hours of that $0.11/hr pay we got back then.

Do yourself another favor and pick up a 2" 4'x8' sheet of foam board while you're at the lumberyard. Lay it between your saw horses when you have to crosscut or rip sheet goods. Set your circular saw blade so it just scores the foam board below. You don't have to worry about catching the offcut piece and the foam board doesn't seriously dull your saw blade. It will last for quite awhile, when the foam board gets all scored up and starts breaking - use it for kneel pads.

Lowes Veterans Discount. What I had to do several years ago is go online and they have company that researches the records to prove DD214 Veterans status etc.
Recently they started asking for the drivers license as people were scamming the system by using their buddies phone number.

Speaking of circular saws, not sure of what kind you have, but try / get one with the blade on the left side if you are right handed. If you notice, most of the professional worm drive saws, the blade is on the left. Once you get a left sided blade, you practically cannot use a regular saw!

Agreed, both my circular saws have a left side blade.. left sided and right handed allows you to see the cut line.

That is the strange part. I was just completing a project with my son, we are both right handed. We had to rip / cut a bunch of plywood. He had his saw out, ready to go.... but, it was the typical right sided blade.

I told him I would be right back and got my left bladed saw. After he used it on a couple cuts, he was amazed by how much easier it was to cut on the line! He said the other normal saw was stupid , he said it was much more difficult to use. He said it would be perfect for left handed people (makes sense). He got a left bladed saw the next week.

Oh... if you are going to cut a lot of plywood this is what you need!

I知 having a bit of trouble envisioning this. The 典 faces up like normal? And the legs get nailed to the angle between the top horizontal and the vertical part underneath that?

Good simple tip about the nail to hold the saw. I just spent two days picking mine off the ground each tim I needed it.

I believe this is what he is talking about, you are making a little "I" beam on top. This way you can make them as long as you want, I used a 2x5 on the bottom to give the legs a little more spread. I normally cut my legs at 32-36 inches depending what I'm using them for. These are 36" and are for a temporary island in my kitchen.

I used to make my own sawhorses in all sizes depending on what the job needed. From shorties for working on room trim to 5 footers for outside trim. For some years now I just use the folding plastic versions. They are light, hard to break, don't mind being sliced a bit by your saw blade, easy to transport and store.

Never used anything but a left side saw, mostly wormdrive. But I have a 80's era sidewinder Skilsaw with left side blade and a Makita cordless, also left side.

I use 4 of the folding sawhorses to make a very solid cutting table and workbench. Combined with some long and short boards for cutting sheet goods easily.
