Cat 1 attachment on Cat 2 tractor

I accidentally bought a cat 1 box blade for my IH 826.

How can I get this thing to fit my tractor?

I can't get the arms on the tractor close enough to get on the pins. I need a few inches. I wondered about longer pins but didn't want to just bend them.

I would think the arms could be adjusted in ........ but I'm admittedly over my head. I'm sure others with the knowledge on your machine will stop by.

Do you run out of adjustment in the lower arms? I'm not familiar with the IH 826 3PH arrangement but every tractor I've owned has lower arms that will adjust from quite narrow to wide enough to hit the tires.

I've never seen longer lower pins that would reach several inches. The forces would quite high on the end of the pins - especially with a box blade.

If there is no other solution, then cutting, welding, and thus modifying the pin mount would seem to be the best bet. Then you could mount Cat 2 pins on the lower arms. Reaming out the top link attachment point would take care of that as well.

If complete desperation takes over you can buy a Cat 2 drawbar from TSC for around $50 and weld it on.

The tractor has a two point hitch with 3pt conversion, but they don't go too close because the gearbox is in the way.

These aren't the best pictures or the same tractor, but the setup is the same, without the fast hitch. I suppose I need to make one of those....

Here is a photo of a Cat 2 drawbar welded to an old Ford 101 plow.

You could do something similar with a box scraper. Do you have a photo of the box scraper mount for additional suggestions?

If you bought implement new take it back and get a cat 2.

RPW has a good idea. Putting a lighter duty box blade on a larger tractor may turn it into a pretzel sooner than later. Try to exchange it for a larger one.
