Many years ago, working on Hanford reservation welding on racks used for depleted fuel. They had one wear full face respirator, and paper coveralls. The racks weren't radioactive, they were worried about dust containing alpha emitters. Wrestling with heavy metal to get pieces in place in full sun in the summer time, and not rip your coveralls put a strain on your body. I figured i could wear a mask in those conditions, walking around a store or in correctional facility, would be a cake walk. On noticeable plus, smells aren't as strong when you wear a mask.
It's the same deal doing asbestos abatement, but the "masks" were actually fitted respirators. I use one with carbon filters under the HEPA (n99) filters when applying chemicals - long sleeves, hat, rubber gloves, safety glasses, respirator. Good filters can be amazing. I had a mask "block up" on me once while doing an epoxy paint job. There was not enough air left in the environment to breathe. I sucked in a breath and very little made it through the filter. Exit quickly and set up better ventilation.

Who is "we"?

Where do people get this stuff?

Here's the facts, from the CDC, available to anyone that wants to check. Link provided below to the entire article.

"During January–December 2020, the estimated 2020 age-adjusted death rate increased for the first time since 2017, with an increase of 15.9% compared with 2019, from 715.2 to 828.7 deaths per 100,000 population. COVID-19 was the underlying or a contributing cause of 377,883 deaths (91.5 deaths per 100,000). COVID-19 death rates were highest among males, older adults, and AI/AN and Hispanic persons. The highest numbers of overall deaths and COVID-19 deaths occurred during April and December. COVID-19 was the third leading underlying cause of death in 2020, replacing suicide as one of the top 10 leading causes of death (6)."

Do you have any thoughts on the longer term overall death rate data? In the grand scheme of things, 2020 doesn't seem out of line to me.

Did you not read the top line on that page?

"NOTE: All 2020 and later data are UN projections and DO NOT include any impacts of the COVID-19 virus."

My bad. I interpreted that comment to apply to the graph right below it, showing UN projections through 2100.

I tried to look up similar data from the CDC, but I didn't have any luck. Here is another source.

OTOH, I'm not so sure about those numbers either. The CDC reported 3,358,814 total deaths for 2020, and 2,854,838 for 2019. That's about a 500,000 jump which I believe is unprecedented.

587,000 dead from COVID in the U.S. so far since a year ago March.

That corresponds to the numbers of additional deaths in 2020 when compared to the numbers that are predicted for a normal year.

What killed an additional multiple hundreds of thousands of people last year?

Hmmm....

Good grief. COVID killed them. Why are people trying to say it didn't?

I would add, that number is low. The death from covid is multifaceted so its very easy to write it off as X killed Joe, not C. This is what normally happens in a pandemic. No conspiracies needed.
