Chain lube

What do you use to lube the chain of your snow blower. My manual mentions nothing about this.

I'm thinking of motorcycle chain lube. Good idea? Bad? Doesn't matter?

I used motorcycle chain lube on my snow blower. Sprays on easy - dries to a waxy material - stays on the chain.

My Lorenz manual calls for 30 weight. I put a funnel in a 1-gallon can, put a bedsheet rag over the funnel, and invert the just "emptied" oil jugs over the funnel whenever I change oil. I put those drainings in a pump oiler to lube the snowblower. The frequency of oiling is probably more important than the type of lube.

Tacky oils like some motorcycle oils, bar and chain oil, rock drill oil, to name a few, may adhere longer but also attract dust and grit. If you don't sand much for ice and snow, it shouldn't be an issue. Waxy, paraffin-like oils may not penetrate to the pins where lube is desired. On bicycle chains they are notorious for washing off in rain, and I would expect snow and ice would scour exposed snowblower chain.

Great Idea, If it last on a motorcycle it will lube on your tractor without splattering all over everything if you keep your tractor inside nice garage floor.

I use Motorcycle chan lube as well - no issues, stays on the chain - I lube after two or three storms, but in reality could most likely do it a couple of times a season as it's always looks well lubed - basically doing it for my self assurance not need.

I have two motorcycles, and tries multiple chain lubes. Found plain old 80w90 gear oil works pretty stinking good.

If you want to hear about 1000 different options, go to any motorcycle forum and do a search on lubricating chains. About 3/4 of those options will work fine.

My bailers are roller chain driven and I use plain old motor oil on them, always have. I oil them when they are warm.

Now, my new round bailer has automatic chain lubing on it. Uses a pressure pump with a tank with good old motor oil in it. Has one shot greasing too.

I use a Loobman on my chain driven bikes. Never adjusted a chain in 7K miles on my KLR. Loobman takes, you guessed it, plain old motor oil in the supply bottle.

A recently deceased biker friend swore Lucas Oil Stabilizer was the best chain lube he had ever used,as he had tried them all.
He was the best all-around gear-head-bodyman I've ever met.
Lucas has preformed on my snowblower chain for 15 years with very few adjustments.

Might give that a try on the bike. New Round baler too.

Overall, I don't think it really matters as long as you keep it lubed with something. I like chain wax because it stays on a little longer.
