Changing Vets

I would stay quiet and see where this goes. You really don't know what is going on here do you? Your just speculating and you need the vet more than he needs you. For all you know the vet owes the guy who needs the skid steer or the guy with the skid steer is going to do some work for the vet.
I say be cool for now.

I think you are totally wrong. The bigmout told one guy he tells another. Pretty soon every one thinks you are broke and a bad risk to do buisness with. The story never stays true. Every one changes it a little. The OP is a sub contractor and needs to maintain a good rep.

I agree 100% with that! This isn't something to let slide, and it need to be addressed in a very firm (but civil) manner. Let him know that your ire isn't directed at him but at the actions of his employee. As others have said, you can't tell the vet how to deal with his employees, but you can remind him that he isn't the only game in town and you can't afford to do business with a place that besmirches your reputation. It wouldn't hurt to mention that the woman has slandered you.
The US Supreme Court defined slander as: (4.) Defamatory words falsely spoken of a party which prejudice such party in his or her profession or trade.

/ Changing Vets #24
If he's a good vet for your animals and has been fair to you, I would tell him in private what happened. Sometimes it takes a while to ditch a bad employee.

/ Changing Vets #25
Regarding the employee that gossiped. Their gossip might not have been intended to be malicious. They knew of the OP money situation. They could have told the other guy that maybe TTN :D aka TaylorTractorNut might be willing to rent equipment to earn some money since he needed money. The employee could have had good intentions. Or Not.

The Vet needs to know to stop the gossip regardless of the intent of the gossip. The vet cannot afford to loose any business and neither can TTN of TBN. :D

I would have done the work for the lady, but whats going on I found out today was that she is having some work done to her house and the carpenter needs a loader to move sand and drill some holes and unload lumber. Hes one of her family friends but what really got me was he knew the exact amount of my bill and acted like I was desperate.

I am in the poor house till I get my deposit for materials back from the town project.

/ Changing Vets #27
So someone else is trying to take advantage, but not the vet himself? If that's it, then I'd just talk to him privately about it and let him deal with it. I'd be sure to tell him that the carpenter knew the exact amount of your bill and wanted your machine to do work on the employee's house. If nothing else, maybe the vet will give you a discount on future services.

Ah. Really no excuse for her to tell him your bill.

After my last post I went to town and had a talk with the Vet and the lady was there in the office. I talked to the Vet and told him how I was aproached, and the bill amount. He offered to write off the bill as he said it was embarassing to him that an employee did this.. I wouldnt agree to it as it is a pretty good bill but I didnt want it to happen again as it could be damaging to my work with the town. He offered to suspend her saying she should know better, but I couldnt really ask that but I also told him I d just do business with him in person.

She acted POed when the vet told her that they had a privacy policy just like the bank. THere was also a sign at counter that states this. Her reply was I was just trying to help the company out. I had dreaded this all day and feel relieved about it now. We do spend alot there with Meds and checkups and all. Iknow this Vet well as he has even opened up on nights and weekends to see a sick animal . I apreciate the good advice yall gave me during this. I guess I was wound up a little tight over my work with the town and landscape customers.

Good to hear it was resolved and apparently to your satisfaction.

So she was a little POed, eh? She isn't all that smart, is she?

I have no doubt your vet has even more respect for you now for not taking him up on his offer to eat the bill and not wanting him to suspend the blabbermouth. You definitely took the high road!

Read the story and glad it worked out. I've moved around a lot over the years and have found that if you find a good doctor, vet, pizza parlor, barber, etc., you value each and every one of them. You value them by how they treat you and yours, and the business they provide to you.:)

I've dealt with parallel situations like this, a few times over the years. More often then not, the employee who shoots their mouth off, no matter the self-serving reasoning, is talking to others to kick their own self-image up a notch.

It's clear she volunteered the information to whoever she was talking to. It's clear as well that she enhanced the story she was telling with her own interpretation of your situation. :(

You did the right thing by talking to the Vet. The clerks commentary is defensive and she's just trying to cover her own. The word is out, her credibility is suspect and that fact alone will get around. She will carry a grudge against you though. I suspect you are now off her Christmas Card list.

Was there a female involved with this ?, and maybe even the BASE of this ?

((I'm going to get shot,,,can already feel the LED dot on the back of my head)) :confused2:

Sounds like you handled it very well.

Well the one that ran her mouth in and old upity female lol. What irked me is when she thought i was in a such a tight I would lend out equipment for a big job she was having done.

My thing with the bill is I know how the economy has us all affect and things here are pretty tight. I would have no way asked to have the bill taken off as I know how much money one can have tied up. I know I have a super sized trucking and tire disposal bill for the job Im on right now.

I also wouldnt have asked to have the woman suspended as she might learn something from this. I think something that has happened this lady has moved here from a big business position where she was over a lot of folks and I know she needs to work like the rest of us. I think she will eventually weed herself out there.

MM wont be the first Christmas card list I ve been kicked off with. I can look at her and grin really big each time Im there now.

You handled this situation perfectly... congratulations on taking the high road. The embarrassment is now resting on the proper head....

/ Changing Vets #36
Taylor, I agree with Westbrooklawn that you handled this very well. You've done nothing but improve my impression of you as a clear-thinking young man with the best of intentions. I hope the city contract works out great for you and this all fades into a bad but slightly amusing memory. Please keep us informed about your project with the city. You've now tweaked my interest.

Glad to hear that it worked out.

It seems like the waiting and thinking about doing something is often worse than the doing. :D

The Vet sounds like a real keeper.

I love that she got upset. Upset that she got caught!!! The vet also sounds like a stand up person. Plus with you not suspending her, you come out looking great and I bet it helps your business down the road.
Gratz that it worked out.

I went in today and dropped of some of my mini balesof straw for animal bedding she just glared at me lol. I really apreciate the advice I got from yall. The city job Im doing is cleaning up an old illegal town dump. Its a branch and leaf dump in a gully but over time chairs and tires got dumped into it. Im donating some of m time as I took a garden class and part of the return pay was donating 40 hrs community service. I also provided them with the removal of the tires and free disposal and took care of the furniture removal. I wont get rich on this but I was given all the compost I want and making some intown connections.

Sooner or later she will cook her own goose if it's not done already.
