I can use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop..

True, but with Sprint that is an additional cost for me, even with unlimited data on the phone, hot spot service is additional

Do you have an Android? You might be able to bypass that. The network can't tell if the phone is hot-spotting. The only way Sprint can stop you is if you use a phone they provide that has been disabled.

Your post and your sig line are ironically and humorously at odds.
True...I just have had experience with them over the last 20 plus years of their cellular business practices...

If that does ever happen and service is no longer usable for my needs I will just cancel, $22 a month is cheap and I have no contract so can cancel at anytime I want if at&t no longer wants my business. :D
That being said I am considering getting one thru ATT...lol
Maybe I can get grandfathered in too...it is a good deal.
Shuuuush, don't tell ATT that someone must've made a mistake with the pricing.

What about if you plug into one of the ethernet ports on the router? So your signal path is Mobley-Asus via USB, Asus-computer via ethernet.

I bought the Asus router to answer my own question. On the speed test, it seems to be about three quarters as fast as connecting to the Mobley via wifi. The numbers jump around so it's hard to tell for sure.

Back to back tests vary wildly, at least for me. I have more than 5 devices, many wired, so it doesn't matter if it's slower......it's required.

I haven't noticed it being slower though, either.....

I suppose its possible the USB could be sending higher speeds to the Asus than what the Mobley can push wireless. My speeds are very close whether connected to Mobley or Asus. 25 meg down pretty consistent. Its a huge improvement over the 3 meg I had for $95 a month. I do see higher speeds when connected to the 5G on my phone.

After my question about the router speed - and answer, Will forego the router for now.

Ordered a small 9db antenna and connector.
Will post a report on back to back download/ upload speeds... Probably won't make a difference...
Still contemplating building a home-brew Yagi antenna.

Still can't complain about download speeds, plenty to stream You tube and TV from the dish all device deal.

I assume any openWRT router will work if it had a USB port. I don't care for openWRT (so I learned), but it's working easy and out of the box. I'll take it as a win and move on.

Out of curiosity what don't you like about it?
Have you tried another firmware like Tomato?

I've used ddwrt, years ago.
I just think the UI is bad or maybe even buggy. Not bad enough to muck with it or anything that serious. Like I said, it works easy and works well.

Ah, OpenWrt is a different animal from ddwrt and while Tomato is almost the same under the hood, it has an excellent interface (better than OpenWrt IMO).

Could be. Not worth the effort, at this point. One thing I'd like is dhcp reservations, for instance. Oh well...

I couldn't find it on my openWRT. My ddwrt is ancient history. I'll look again.

Best buy in Saginaw appears to have Mobleys again. I bought a couple, in hopes they can be transferred to a different store. Might have to cancel it though.

I have placed in Best Buy cart but it won't let me check out and pay. Says for store pickup only and when I enter zip it says not available.
