Chickens, and things related

Well the wife wanted lots of glass so here's the plan we came up with for the front of the coop so far.

I was having some problems with our Anderson windows a while back. So I called Anderson since they were still within warranty and when the guy was a-fixin the windows I happened to ask him if he ever saw any damaged windows that we could use for the coop we were building. He was nice enough to give us 3 of the insulated panels that you see in the picture. Turns out the paint was scratched so they were removed from a home and were to be scrapped. I guess you could say that we "rescued them"

We're planning a couple of windows that open for some cross ventilation as well.

It's kinda nice being able to frame the walls on the base of the coop then transport them to the pole barn until needed.

Finally finished framing up all 4 walls. Couldn't frame the windows for the side walls until the wife decides where she wants them placed.

Tomorrow, weather permitting we plan on attaching the four walls to the base and getting all the truss in position. If we get real lucky we might get the roof on the coop before the next rains come.

We wanted a 12 inch overhang on the front of the coop with the top peak jutting out 18 inches so I added that feature while the 1st truss was still on the ground.

When we got the walls and roof put up it looked like this. The wife and I got to looking at it and we both decided that the roof was way to high. So I broke out the chain saw and cut the whole top off the coop.

There went 3 days of work........

Here's what we settled for. It involved making yet another full set of truss.

Looks good. I expected your first set of trusses to sit on the walls lower and cover part of the wall. If that makes sense. Looks good!

Today was a GOOD day. The sun was a shining and we got a lot done on the coop.

And things always go better when a good friend is helping. :)

And just as I was putting tools away for the day my cell phone rings. It's Mike a friend of mine calling, wanting to know if I could use a hand tomorrow putting up the shingles.

Geeze man, I must be doing something right.....

More to follow tomorrow.....

Yesterday we were able to finish the roof and today we laid the vinyl on the floor of the coop and the garden tool storage area which should help with the clean-up duties.
