Chupacabra found?

True story. Walking in the woods 60 years ago or more came to tree with a baby coon about one quart in size. and decided to catch and tame it.
climbing up tree it would go higher so did I until about 20 ' off the ground the coon was out on a short limb. took off my belt to make a loop to put around the coons neck. Then that animal turned into a ball of screaming, scratching, with teeth everywhere and my retreating down the tree turned into branches getting yanked off on the way down to ground. Gave it the belt as a trophy of the event. went home looking like a tornado had settled on my head. No body felt sorry and others in school made fun of the experance. But also know no one else tried to out do coon catching idea.

Reminds me of the guy who captured a baby Bob Cat in his shirt. The trip to the emergency room falls under the "unintended consequences" category.

Just corner a coon and worry him with a stick a little...send us your photos...the best ones are taken from eye level:shocked:

When sufficiently agitated, it will climb right up the stick and shake your hand!!

We have those things out on our deck every single night it's over -10 F outside for the last 20 years. I have seen them do just about everything including goose-pile brawls. Not once did I ever see one make a face like old Ricky here. That is one massively po'ed raccoon you have there.

texasjohn Coons will take on a pack of hunting dogs and win often luring the dog to water and then drown them.

Notice the first report of this Chupacabra varmit has turned into a hairless coon from Victoria area.

Maybe had been swiming in the Houston channel when the barage was hit.

Ken, I totally agree. I spent many, many happy hours in my youth coon hunting. Had a border collie dog. Great nose and fearless. She out hunted my cousin's coon dogs...treed more coons and killed them quicker than they did. I know the Victoria area well. I always kept my dog from following into the water for exactly the reason you give...a coon on a dog's head is a dead dog in water.

Mace, I love your story...given that fellow's track record of smarts, wonder how long he survived?

texasjohn worked couple of years in Victoria installing the Mid west Cable co. installation '57 to '59 Enjoyed living there at that time the city had more Millionaires the any other city of its size.
Would get my morning exercise climbing the 440 foot tower to change out amplifiers (tube type ).
Should of purchased land around Port Lavaca at that time wasn't any houses due to a hurricane had cleaned the beaches.

Well, since it is now dead, I have to assume that it was put down because somebody decided that it was in dire straights and the kind thing was to kill it quickly.

So, we are left only with speculation and the short video.

Highest probability is that it was a native animal which met with unfortunate situation. From the size of the animal, I can think of only two which have the same body style and size...coon or possum.

Looking at the images and from my knowledge of both animals from hunting and taking a large number of both when in my youth, I vote for coon.

However, I'm not buying the mange theory....cases of mange I have seen result in bare patches or balding patches, but patches of hair remain.

I saw no hairs remaining...so I'm thinking that the poor animal was born with a genetic problem leaving it completely hairless and possibly a collection of other anomalies making survival very difficult. It did seem to be in poor condition and very hungry.

If we discard the above theory, then we are left with considering any animal world wide which might have been acquired as a pet then released into the wilds of Victoria area...and there are true wilds there, trust me. Some pastures are 10000 acres under one fence.

So, I guess, our best opportunity to examine a chupacabra has once again slipped away...

Yep, an adult bear can't climb a tree, and politicians can't tell lies!

There is a special name for people who believe adult bears cannot climb trees. "bear poop"

Had one fall out of an oak tree, into the George Washington Canal/Dismal Swamp Canal once, missed our little row boat by about 5'. Then tried to climb in with us and almost capsized the boat, we beat it with paddles until it gave up and swam to shore. That's not as bad as the time the Cotton mouth dropped into the boat with us and my buddy shot him and a put a nice 00 buckshot hole in the bottom of the aluminum boat!

If that would have been anything worth investigating I'm quite sure scientists would have swarmed that place and "El Chupacupra" would have become a much studied guest of the state. Instead what you have are a couple of out back coo koo birds gaining their 5 minutes of fame and the local news partially going along with them. You know how it is in the country, nothing ever happens so any news is big.

Holy moly, remind me not to get in a boat with you all. Too much excitement.

Along the Dismal Swamp canal and in the swamp, there are gators, bears, bobcats, cougars, 4 kinds of poisonous snakes, several evil spiders, red wolves and nowadays, coyotes. Don't know if I'd be so nonchalant like I was back then, walking through the woods.
