Interesting question. Some people run old army UAZ, it is an interesting piece of Russian turd:D Most likely I would not have an offroad. I would probably drive company car, it is much more common in Europe to have a car as part of the benefits.

But my dad's first car was 1943 Kubelwagen, he sold it to some movie makers in 1974.

Is this rear engine like a Volkswagen bug? Looked like a regular street tire. How was it in cold weather?

A little web search answered my own question. From wikipedia:

The Volkswagen Kübelwagen (short for Kübelsitzwagen, meaning "bucket-seat car") was a military vehicle designed by Ferdinand Porsche and built by Volkswagen during World War II for use by the German military (both Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS). Based heavily on the Volkswagen Beetle, it was prototyped as the Type 62, but eventually became known internally as the Type 82.

Good research:)

Here are some more details. It was rear wheel drive only with reducers in wheels - but the common thing was to remove them for better mileage and speed. The differential was a version of suretrack with face cams and cam followers and it gave it better traction on a slippery surface. Other than that, only clearance and engine in the rear made it somewhat of an offroad vehicle.
It was lighter than today's cars, same as the original jeep and it made it easier for recoveries.

And yes, those are street tires, back then you were lucky if you could buy any tires:)

The 4wd version of KDF was the schwimwagen, they were built in limited numbers. I collected some pictures over here.

Interesting thing happened. This lady, friend of ours, said she would not trust the jeep since I have it all apart putting it back together. . . . but I think she is bit off:D

I think she is more that a bit off. I'd ride in that Jeep any day. Nice job! It's easy to see the pride and skilled workmanship in your Jeep.:)

What a strange thing she said. How does she think anything is built. It's apart and then somebody puts it together. Hmmmmm:confused::confused:

I think you are right, she must be "off"
