I keep my ck2610 in an unheated pole barn. It's been very cold here for the past week or so. I thought I'd go out and start her up to see how she ran as this is the first winter I have this machine. I had no problem starting...a little smoke and some banging around not bad for how cold it's been. I let it idle till the engine was running smooth and the temp gauge came up. I backed out of the garage and started going down our driveway and it lost power and died. It started right up no problem and when I went to throttle up the engine dropped off in RPM's and died again. Kind of sounded like it was losing fuel? Started it once more and it ran fine?? I thought maybe the fuel had gelled a bit? I used to have a lower radiator hose heater on my over tractor. I think I'm going to add one to this tractor. I always treated my fuel with a additive for cold weather. What do you guys think happened?

Might of gelled a bit ,Then the returned fuel warmed the tank fuel up , we had 3 plow trucks with treated fuel die last night same deal put the torpedo heater on the fuel tanks 10 min good to go , One made it 50 feet then died

I'd agree with Peter. You have fuel starvation. The fuel either gelled a bit or you had an ice crystal in the line. If using off road diesel, which usually doesn't sell fast around here, I'd add about 50% more additive. The fuel station here advised me they put in additive to their tank for Winter. I added my normal amount and it gelled on me. Lesson learned. My rpms would go up and down. At least it ran enough to get it into a heated garage.

I've been using stydene that the dealer gave my when I bought the tractor. I have Howes and Power service that I used in the past without a problem. Hmmm??

Victor, I feel for you folks over near Erie. Ya must be getting tired of the snow by now? Wish we had more here east of you in Tioga County. Only a few inches on the ground.

Sounds EXACTLY like what happened to me about 30 years ago. Extremely cold ( -20F) - tractor started and let it warm up for 20 minutes - got about 150 yds down the driveway and it quit. Checked in fuel tank and it DID look like jello. Generator and wife's hair dryer for about 30 minutes solved the problem.

Now I put Power Service in all my diesel fuel.

You might need to run number 1 fuel or mix some with the number 2.
I'm not a big fan of additives.
It's been below 0 for awhile now here in northern Minnesota. I'm fortunate to have a heated garage to keep my machine in. If I had to keep it out, I would just use straight no.1 IMG_20171227_062846270.jpg

I take it #1 is kerosene?

No, number 1 and number 2 diesel at pumps, some have a blend of both and will be labeled as so.
Kerosene is labeled at a separate pump.
