You nailed it BTI. I removed the 2 piece plastic cover on the bundle of wires with the red tape and not only was the male side of the connector not making contact, it looked like it was disintegrated. I cut the wires and spliced in a new wire with a male/female disconnect and taped it all up real good. I just about killed me to have to cut wires on a brand new tractor, but it works as it should and it saved me money and time by not having to take it back to the dealer. My high beam indicator light even works on the instrument panel. No one but me (and you guys of course) will ever know it did not come this way.

I grew up on a farm in Southern IL and we lived about 2 miles from SR3 near a little town called Evansville (IL not IN). My dad used to joke around when something was maybe not as level as it should have been or not as pretty as new after a repair, he would say "they will never see it from Route 3". I am confident that when ever I turn the headlights on, they will work, and I will always remember the grief this caused me. Of course this has given me a real opportunity to bond with my new Kioti!!

A special thanks to Michigan Iron and BTI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks,
Jeff

CK30HST that can now work in the dark (at least I will be able to see what is in front of me)

Gotta wonder why that connector is so "disintegrated" and why there is green material (or is that paint?) in the connector box. I presume it happened after installation and that it represents some form of galvanic corrosion. Makes you wonder if there is stray current in that circuit.

Wow! That says volumes about the quality of that connector. Makes me wonder how many more time bombs like that there are on these tractors. I hope Kioti is taking note of this.

I'm not sure it says anything bad about the connector, any connector (other than gold:)) would disintegrate with galvanic corrosion.

I'm not an electrician but I still suspect that there is some stray current that has (with some water) allowed greatly accelerated corrosion. This is a new tractor so whatever it was must have been going on while the tractor was still in the dealer's lot.

Well, I'm an electrical engineer who has used and specified many a connector in my day. And this is one area where you get what you pay for. A quality connector would not do that. That's a new part, not some old heavily used component. It's completely disintegrated! That product is cheap, using low grade metals with poor passivation.

I probably should have been more specific with my picture of the connector. The green wire male pin should be on the far right of the bottom row. I say should be, because it was gone. I think this picture was taken before the 2 piece cover was removed (can not remember for sure) to show which wire went where, but I knew there was a problem when there was 8 wires coming in to the plug and there were only 7 pins.

The green strip between the pins is a plastic divider.

This kind of thing happens when you have poor passivation (bad plating) and the ground is close by a "hot" pin, or if the mate is of different metalurgy. Not sure where the grounds are in there. But, best you can do now is to make sure it is filled with dielectric grease.

hey guys in the past i would Vaseline when i didn't have dielectric grease. has anyone else done this?

Is there any downside to filling these things with dielectric grease? I'm wondering if that is a generally good thing to do on my tractor even if there are not any current problems? (Pun not intended but kinda cute:))
