I think you can classify this post under T*R*O*L*L. Why else would someone named "DodgeMan" want to post a purely speculative thread about SOMEONE ELSE'S truck?

The problem is going to get solved on an Internet forum? Don't think so...but it gives the chance to bash a product and speculate a lot.

I wouldn't call DodgeMan a troll. He is normally pretty open in his posts and not completely against other brands. Now if RoadHunter posted it then I would agree with you.

Dodge man is not a troll. No way.

Well, you would be wrong. You can look at my past posts and see I'm a serious poster and have been for a while.
I was hoping someone had some experience in this area with the 6.4 Fords. I've been seeing them struggle with this truck for a few months now and so far the dealer has been taking care of them but I see signs they may not this time. I don't have hard numbers but I would bet the repair costs on this truck are closing in on 20k. I would have demanded a different truck by now.

They are a young couple and I think they are both nice people and I don't want to see them eat the cost of $27,000 truck.

I have to agree, not a troll.

Bottom line is his friends bought a truck that had been abused and dumped on the used market and now they are paying.

Yup, seen this story before..Problem is you get so buried you don't want to get out.. I fully understand that.

For a 6.4 to have metal shavings doesn't mean abuse in particular, they are very sensitive to water in fuel. The water in fuel light may have never came on.
Dumped? Maybe or just bad luck.

Thanks everyone for saying I'm not a troll.

DP, I'm afraid you hit the nail on the head. They paid for the extended warranty so far they haven't had to pay for anything. Im not sure the dealership and the warranty company aren't having a few go arounds as to who pays what. I also think the mechanic at the dealership is about ready to throw in the towel.

Did they buy it from the dealership that has been servicing it? If so maybe the dealership will step up and give them a good deal on trade for another truck.

That's what I suggested but it sounds like they would take a loss. You'd think the dealership would step up and make it right.

If they bought a truck with 70,000 miles on it from a dealership and could only drive it for two weeks in four months and now the dealership won't work with them, they should see a lawyer. How many miles did they drive it in those two weeks?

Most of the miles would be back from the dealership which is about an hour drive for them. I'm guessing they just put a few hundred miles on it.

The problem with a lawyer is where does the money come from? Do you spend a few thousand bucks on a lawyer and not come out ahead?

I told her to write down all the times it's been in the shop, send a letter to the owner and demand a trade dollar for dollar. I'd also think the warranty company would want to get out from under that truck.

I do agree with some strong letters first which is why I referenced if the dealership will not work with them. They can ask the lawyer to take a percentage of the deal or include their costs in the settlement request. The dealership likely would settle out of court.

Nice to see you and DP getting along ? You are two great contributors .

Sounds like the previous owner mistakenly put gas in it then dumped it asap to some poor sucker.

The 6.4 has been a good motor all in all. Most issues are related to DPF.

Chris

You have just about lost all credibility with this statement. The 6.4 Ford is nothing more than a steaming pile of junk that rates up there with GM's 350 diesel. There's a reason why they only made the engine for two years.

What kind of piece of junk would ford have to put out before you would admit that its a pos?

Ford didn't make the 6.4 Navistar did. Ford stopped using it due to emissions requirements. The 6.4 was not going to meet them. Ford was upset ( to say the least) with all the problems from the 6.0. And decided to make their own engine that is why it was only used for three years 2008-2010.

So has the new Ford engine (6.7?) Proven to be reliable?

Aren't there stats that show how (un)reliable the 6.4 is to take the opinions, and insults, out of this discussion?

Exactly. The emission stuff is the issue.
