Co-worker with 6.4 Ford Power Stroke problems.

I'm sorry if anyone took it as an insult. It just really grinds on me how DP can harp on everything done bad by GM and Dodge both while refusing that Ford has laid a bunch of turds in their day as well. Anybody who has even a little bit of experience knows that the 6.4 is, has, and always will be a problem child. My mechanic summed it up for me when I bought my 6.0. He told me that the 6.0 has it's problems but we could work around them and fix it. He told me to stay away from the 6.4 at all costs. All 6.4's are ticking timebombs, they just come with different detonators from the factory on how many miles until they let go. And last time I checked Navistar didn't make all the emissions junk, Ford did.

Every single person that I know that owns a 6.4, without exception, has had major problems with the engine/truck/emissions. Most have dumped their 6.4's. The ones that have not wish they would've long ago. Our own member here (Brian55) ended up dumping his as well due to the same problems most other users have.

If one reads his posts on a regular basis, you will see he compliments other brands. I even believe he said his next truck could be a Nissan Titan diesel. In regards to the 6.4, the blame ultimately rests on Ford since they entered into a contract with Navistar. Having built the bulletproof 7.3 and the ok 6.0, I can see how there was trust placed in Navistar that should not have been, but Navistar can not be held unaccountable for their bad design.

I own a Ford F-350 6.0 PSD and I daily drive a 2012 F-150 Ecoboost 4x4. My previous truck was a '03 Chevy 4x4. My family own and runs about 12 diesel trucks of various nature and brands.

I am not anti-Ford. I am not anti-GM or anti-dodge. I think that if you're going to tell the truth you should tell the whole truth.

It's hard to say your truck is reliable with last time I seen you mention with under 60,000 miles on it. We've put near that many miles on trucks in a year. The radiator leak is a big issue because it is so very common and ford didn't do a recall on it. Most leak after the 36'000 mile warranty and ford does not stand behind them. I know of personally more than 2 dozen 6.4s with the bad radiator. Ford's refusal to stand behind their products is what lost me as a customer.

How many miles does it have to have before you can say your vehicle is reliable? And a radiator leak is bad, yes, but it isn't the same as a blown motor. Mine failed at 26k miles.

Also, when considering the source, I do not consider anyone who has a Brand centered Avatar or Username to be categorized as "unbiased". Someone who goes by Dodgeman or Fordman in their moniker usually pulls pretty hard for their favorite brand.

Mine has 56k. The engine has been absolutely reliable. The cooling system had an issue that was resolved with one trip to the dealer. I realize that vehicles have occasional issues, and nothing mechanical is perfect. For me, with one trip to the dealer in the 4 years and 30k+ miles I have put on the truck, that's reliable IMO.

If you are one of those that expects absolutely zero trips to the dealer and expects it to be perfect, then no, my truck has not been reliable. If you are like me and realize that, sometimes, mechanical things break, then my truck has been reliable. Other than oil changes, I have been without my truck for about 4 hours in 4 years. That means I have had my truck available for 99.99% of the time. What is not reliable about that?

A 4 hour fix that didn't leave me stranded is not a major failure in my mind. Is it a major component of the truck? Yes. Was I able to drive it just fine until I could get it in for service? Yes. Heck, I even got a loaner to run my errands when it was in the shop, so it's not like I was really out of a vehicle that long.

Maybe I'm just more open minded and flexible. Maybe you would feel the same way I do if it was your truck. I don't know.

Since everybody wants to talk about reliable truck where are all the 1995-2001 Toyota Tacomas. That's right in the scrap yard with rotted frames. The trucks were just breaking in half. But everybody including Toyota today states it is reliable. I know Toyota has paid a lot of owners off and bought the trucks back and Toyota scrapped the trucks. I used to see several loads a day of crushed Tacomas drive by. All manufacturers have problems created by outside vendors going the cheap route.

The vendors only go the cheap route because they are given price points by the manufacturer. The manufacturer is ultimately responsible, as long as the vendor is meeting the specs given to them by the manufacturer.

Apparently the answer is "No, there aren't stats." Just anecdotal evidence provided by posters who share their experience, e.g.;

"Everyone I know had problems."
"My mechanic says...."

and the rage inducing

"Everyone I know had no problems."

which some take offense at, and believe they have to point out someone else's supposed bias in favor of a brand. Apparently they believe if they don't point it out, all the other TBNers are so dull witted they are unable to perceive bias on an Internet discussion forum and genetically unable to recognize such posts for what they are, personal experience.
