input to the intake manifold, if you look closely between the green lines and the thick black intake air tube, you'll see the the thermostart element, this is the element which volitizes the diesel to help start the tractor!

169d is jealous that i didn't show his TS system, which is setup correctly (and that's a good point!!). Here's the 169d in driveway getting worked on ('can't tell..)

OK, 169d is now asleep, waiting for snow removal time, need to get some grease and oil and then some SNOW... But, nevertheless, asleep behind my house...

Let me know if I can help any more about the TS system. I bought my replacement from hoyetractor last winter, works good!

Art - I looked at all the pics you took on your thermostart. Thank you for doing that. I assembled them onto a single page (attached) and will use for comparison on mine. Someone mentioned that it may be an option, so I suspect I don't have it. Oooops, I didn't include the 2 pics of the mouse infested barn/shed where the 1601d sleeps or the 169d in driveway, so I hope neither of their feelings are hurt /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif .

My 2310 manuals from hoyetractor should be here next week, so I'll be able to learn more then. Appreciate the sharing.

Bruce

No hurt feelings, the other pictures were on the camera ('cept the 169d in driveway) so I included them. In retrospect, I was a bit overboard in including them in the first place, I apologize!

I wouldn't be surprised if your tractor is missing the TS as mine was. It's easy to re-introduce to your tractor and I would totally recommend if you think you'll want to start up in weather below 40F.

One thing to note, my pictures didn't include the metal plate infrastructure that the TS fuel bowl gets bolted to, but California included the documentation/picture of what this looks like-- I didn't get that part since it wasn't available. -Art

Another photo of a Thermostart.

As a side issue, from the photo its obvious this is a work tractor, never 'factory rebuilt' in its 25 years. Never needed it, given normal maintenance it still runs like new!/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

But this photo compared to Art's illustrates that the nice appearance of the rebuilts is an added value, worth some $, compared to the ragged appearance of old equipment showing its age. If I were in an application where appearance mattered, like a riding stable or something, then a cleaned up unit would have some appeal for me.
