If you go to the Ferris Industries web page and look at the corporate history, you will find that Toro, Ferris, and Simplicity are all owned by Briggs & Stratton. All of the Ferris models, except the basic line, have independent suspension on all four wheels, which helps with the bumps a lot.

I don't own a Ferris, but I keep looking at Zturn mowers and so far they appear to be the top of the lines.

Could you please post the link showing Toro being owned by Briggs & Stratton? I tried to find it but could not. I know for sure about Ferris and Simplicity and Murray but believe that Toro is still Toro.

Thanks

-and a whole crapload of parks&rec/golf course equipment. When they're stripping those baseball diamonds you'll often see a Toro doing the job.

I reminded him that at the time of the sale, he told me that I would get better service from him then either Home Depot or Tractor Supply (where I was looking at competing models). I went on to tell him that if I'd bought from either of them and my mower died the 2nd day I could have returned it for a refund- so where is my better service? He responded by saying I was unreasonable.

All I can say is I feel your pain, having a similar experience with my Kubota dealer. I know a lot of guys buy local for the "service" factor...but to me it just doesn't exist. I certainly hope this works out for you. That "being unreasonable" comment would have set me off....maybe not to the point of taking a swing with a bat at him, but certainly complaints in writing to Toro/BBB/anybody who would listen. Sad to say, sometimes once they have your money you're on your own.

My bad, brain was thinking Snapper, fingers typed Toro. sorry about the confusion. Been working on a Wheel Horse, so Toro was was just below the surface.

In 2004 Simplicity Manufacturing, along with it's subsidiaries, Ferris, Snapper and Giant-Vac were purchased by Briggs & Stratton Power Products Group.

I maintain a fleet of Ferris mowers for a commercial mower. I have known about the B&S link to Ferris but he funny thing is while they are available with a B&S the Kawasaki engines out sell them 10 to 1 around here. I have also heard that a Ferris with a B&S motor is worth a grand less on the used market around here compared to the same unit with a Kaw.

Hey Dan, where are you located at? I am usually a big dealer backer, but in situations like this you are going to end up getting stuck with a brand new mower with a rebuild motor. If it is a rod, lifters, etc, something serious like that on a brand new machine, I would push to get a new motor instead of being stuck with a rebuilt one, I hate situations like this. I had a new Dixon with a Kohler engine, and the manufacture had to step to help get the motor replaced instead of rebuilt.... I think it would be worth it to demand a refund and just get a different machine that you know will work. Your dealer should have checked out the machine fully before dropping it off with you, I always mow on every machine I sell before leaving, or atleast see it mow....
