I believe we are in the process of amending our law to read that you can not carry a concealed weapon into any establishment whose primary purpose is to sell alcohol Vs not being able to carry it into any establishment that sells alcohol. This will allow legal carry into a restaurant. Dave

The Texas law defines it as any establishment that derives at least 51% of its sales from alcohol.

as far as the concealed weapons, we have had the permits in penna for quite a while, they dont cause gunfights in the street,s, there is no more road rage shootouts, so all in all, it is not really any different as far as what goes on on a daily basis, it does give a citizen the right to protect himself and his family and thus some peace of mind. i would whole hearted ly argue that there needs to be a ntional carry law, if i am a good citizen in penna, i will be a good citizen in all the other states as well. the fact that crossing an imaginary geographic line makes me a criminal is a really insane notion.

I too would support a national carry law, but I would not want a national registration that goes with that law. The law I would like to see is more a national reciprocity law that says if you hold a valid concealed weapon carry permit in one state, then that permit is valid in other states. A law like that would prevent you from having a national registration of legal gun owners.
I did not read all the posts in this forum, but as for crime and shootouts and all that stuff, I believe the 37 (?) states with CCW permits have an average of 25% fewer gun crimes than the remaining states that do not. (By the way, New Mexico and Ohio just got their CCW laws passed in 2003)

The only way to avoid that is if the case is reduced to a attempted carry with out a permit. If it was used in this manner to commit another Felony it is a Mandatory 5 years in Federal Prison for unlawful use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. This is incorrect. Each STATE sets the penalty for carrying a concealed weapon. In addition, carrying a concealed weapon is different than carying a concealed firearm.

One of my favorite subjects! I did a college paper on this back in 1997 titled "Concealed Carry: Positive effects of and on the armed citizen"...Any idea where I stand?
And I'm a cop.
Many people have all ready given statistics that show a positive, or at worst, nuetral effect of concealed carry laws. We all agree that the bad guys will carry guns regardless of the law.
So, here's something that is not often discussed. If a person feels the need to get a CWP, and the person feels better because they are carrying a gun, then the quality of life of that individual is positively effected in no small way. Even if they never have to pull out the gun. This is not insignificant, especially to people who live, work, or travel through high crime areas.
I am an AVID supporter of the 2nd amendment and legal CCW. I often encounter armed citizens during my daily routine. My experience and statistics show that concealed weapons permit holders are some of the most law abidng persons around. Statistically more so than the average citizen.
If your state has a concealed weapons permit program, I encourage you to apply for and obtain a permit.
In summary, look at Vermont, which is one of the most peaceful States in the Country. In Vermont, with very few exceptions, one may carry a concealed firearm without a permit.

At the present time, the Ohio law will not allow concealed carry into any "room" where alcohol is served. But, They passed this bill knowing certain "issues" will arise and they will make amendments to it as time goes by. A restaurant that also serves beer?? For now NO, maybe that will be one of the amendments in the future.

Don't hold your breath for that bill. However, the STATES may introduce nationwide CCW of their own accord with more and more reciprocity. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Not that cops deserve special attention, but if HR 218 can't pass, then civilian nationwide concealed carry is in trouble /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
