Confused About Sizes?

If it's gona work in a real woodlot the 3010 is about the minimum size. Have you gotten any hints on the type of tire yet?

If it's on your own acres the smaller one will do just fine and mow a whole lot better.

</font><font color="blue" class="small">( Hello,

We live on 4 acres, mostly wooded with some lawn and a long driveway. Mrs. Tombo said I could go ahead and get a new toy, er tool to landscape, haul out firewood for the fireplace and do routine driveway maintenance.

My mother-in-law lives next door and she and Mrs. Tombo want a trail through the woods so that Mrs. Tombo Jr. can get to Grandma's house without going in the road.

Sounds to me like you need to be looking at the 30-35 hp range of CUTs. Grubbing out stumps, building trails, etc., can be done much easier and much safer with a bigger machine.

Unless you plan on getting a glorified lawnmower the shed isn't going to be big enough anyway, so I wouldn't make that a qualifying factor.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM! it might e a good idea to give us an idea of the ara of the country , do u have to move snow? how long is your long drive? the L3130 will be a bit easier on the stump removal, but a tad large for mowing.

I'll second that! My L3130 with loaded tires leaves depressions every time I drive across the yard with it. Sure glad I don't mow with it.

Thanks in advance! )</font>

Two tractors and sleeping in the shed? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Might not be a bad option, you sure got me thinking /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

A Kubota B7610 with a backhoe and loader is 16' long. But, it has a rather tall (folding) ROPS. The Kubota B7610 is being replaced by the B7630. I have found mine to work quite well on the landscaping tasks I've used it for. The backhoe on the B7610 is more capable that the BX series. Try them at the dealer's back lot if possible. I did, and it made the decision to get the bigger B7610. I don't mow, so, I have no input on the B7610's mowing capabilities.

Check the lift height on the loader of your choices. Make sure you can clear the box sides of your pick-up. These smaller tractors don't have a lot of loader lift. The LA352 loader on a B7610 will lift 64.2" (according to the manual).

I have the Kubota 7800 and my shed is 12X16 with a 6X8 door. The 7800 with the front end loader takes up pretty much the entire shed. I have about two feet behind the machine. I had to go with the 60" mid mount mower because the 72" was too large to fit through the door. I was looking at the L3130 but determined it was more machine then I would normally need. One thing to keep in mind is that the dump height on a 7800 is 5'5". Any machine smaller is going to have a shorter dump height and may not work well with your dump truck. As far as stumps, I decided instead of trying to pull them out, I just rent a grinder for a day and grind whatever I need. It only costs $200 for a day and you can go through quite a few stumps in a day. I also like my R-4 tires for messing around trees especially the locust and hege apple with the huge thorns. And finally, you have to be able to get your tractor to where the work is, so if you have a large machine and are unable to get it to where the work is, then it is back to the manual labor.

I'd say in a minute the BX23 would be the cat's meow for you but the woods and the ground clearance are the problem. Going into the woods isn't a good idea with the 23.
Anything in the B series the boys are offering up is the way to go. Anything 25-30 HP will do nicely and you WILL be adding to the shed.

I live in Western Maine. the snowfall amount varies. I have a L & G tractor that will be taking care of snow removal & lawn mowing.

I will be getting R4 tires for sure.

I have seen the 2630 Kubota and I will wait until their release. I also like the 3030.

I am in a similar situation land wise. I ended up with a JD 4115 w/410 loader & 46 backhoe. So far we have cut down about 100 trees and removed the stumps. As some have stated a larger machine will do the work faster but we have no complaints. I guess the largest stumps we have pulled out so far are about 12" in diameter. I also agree that you should not let the size of your current shed limit your tractor search. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
