Mule Deer are my favorite deer.
What happens next?Driving through Jersey Valley I found myself having to ease my way through a government wild horse roundup.
What happens next?
Are they salable, live or for dogfood?
Neuter and release, like urban cats?
???
Not talking by first account experience but from a few documentaries I have watch altho maybe outdated, and maybe it wasn’t Nevada but i thought it was. Some organisations do trained them yes a very small amount. They showed some prison programs the inmates did the training (very good documentary). They also said some end up for human consumption and some for animal consumption. (after researching it must be a pre 2003 doc as that law passed in 03)They are kept in "holding facilities" around the country...but mostly here in Nevada. Last figures I saw were that there were about 62,000 in these BLM holding facilities...costing the American taxpayer $158,000,000 last year!
No neuter and release. They try to adopt them out but people quickly found out that these are wild animals and act that way...can be very dangerous. Not like a horse used to having people around from when it was a young colt. By law, they cannot be sold for slaughter. So they live in these holding facilities till they die of old age. And the American taxpayer pays for their upkeep (food, vet bills, etc.) till they die of old age.
As usual, it is our own lawmakers who passed this stupid law:
