I grew up in the SF East Bay. Hayward. I remember hearing about Hetch Hetchy every year during the dry season or after a low year for snow, and the New Channels worried that we wouldn't have enough drinking water because Hetch Hetchy wasn't full.

My resident geese coming in from the neighbors pond.

Only one pair this year. That male is very aggressive, so he keeps my ponds to himself and his gal.

Have a couple of Wood Ducks showing up at the bird feeder area. These two were checking out the corn.

Those are not wood ducks. They are Black Bellied Whistling Ducks.

Yes, they are on the fence, on the barn, at the edge of the pond and out in the pond. Today there are two here. Last week there where 8. Sometimes there are none, and we've had over 100 of them!!!

I've never seen clouds like that. Pareidolia to the max, turned sideways an owl, screaming mouth, etc.

Sunflowers are sprouting up. Planted them last week before the rains came. Used about a 6# bag in this plot. Figured the crows would be pecking them up pretty quickly. I wasn't wrong. So we'll see how many make it to flowers. I will be cutting some down for my chickens when they're ready.

My quail sure appreciate the sunflowers I plant once snow falls. Me, I love to see the contortions they go through trying to reach the seeds on those downturned heads!

I've had a busy week. Sitting on the back porch decompressing,

First peach of 2025. Picked it today. Last year a coon broke that young
tree in half getting at a few peaches. Hopefully, this year the dog will help keep
the coons, deer and squirrels at bay, maybe.

They call them Red Wood Ducks around here. They like to roost in the trees.

Peaches around here have barely come out of their shuck.
