Just had a bid from "Entergy" here in Grimes County, Texas for 1,000 feet of primary service run along an existing dirt road from an existing feeder on the State Highway to my saw pole:

Overhead - $6.80 / ft

Buried - $7.20 /ft

This includes such variables as crossing a State Highway to reach my property, minimal ROW clearance as I have already cleared most of the trees from the ROW myself....

A neighbor did this recently for his new outbuilding. Bought the wire locally, cost was $3/ft. Rented the trencher for $75/hour. Rented for just 2 hours. Electric company wouldn't do it because they had already done the initial cut just 2 years earlier for his new house. Once the wire was in place, the EC came out to make the connection to the "junction" box, I believe this service was free. Be safe and good luck!

definatly a time to rent a trencher and save some money and have some fun, i might be cheeper to run over head across the high way then down a pole in to the ground, pole would have to be at normal spacing to maximize savings
