Country music is dead?

Country Gold II was a dude locally but there was no promo. CountryStrong is coming with a ton of promotion (Arby's chain for one and in the previews) so country music may be wounded but not dead.

Video's are where all music is today it seems. They can help you listen with your eyes more than your ears in some cases. If the view is good enough the words do not matter so much. :thumbsup:

I mean, I listen to country music most of the time, but lately it is just annoying. If you compare classics like All my exes live in Texas or Mama don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys or the good old Johny Cash - current country music just plain sucks; wouldn't you agree? There is a lot of whining and nothing catchy in lyrics or melody.

I agree 100%. I mentioned that I liked the "old" guys like Randy Travis and George Strait. An older friend of mine says, what??? those are the new guys, he considers classic country Hank Williams Sr, John Conally....sorry couldn't think of any more.

A lot of you might not like this Country Artist but I have to say he give it his all, struggling to keep the "Country Spirite Alive" back when music was going in all directions, POP,Disco,Rock, was becoming the takeover, and instead of him going with the flow, he kept his roots planted in Country soil, Yes ye had many of flop songs, although he made many songs that could relate to country Folks like us,

Then yes, country music is mostly dead. How long has Patsy Cline been gone? 45 years? Willie Nelson is still performing, if they let him out of jail. Lung surgery took Merle Haggard out of the game. The rest are dead.

The style is still out there. As noted throughout this thread though, the style is not generally heard on Pop-40 country stations. You gotta look for it.

And Patsy has been gone 47.5 years. She died 6 months before I was born :-(

No problem, I figured a few of you guys would like it.

I find it amazing that a fellow of his talent is "unknown." I know he doesn't want to be known, but noone can figue out who he is. My guess, he's a session player in Nashville, or has a face like a bulldog and just doesn't want to be seen.

My guess is that he is a very famous country western star under contract that ties his performances up tight, so he has to do his YouTube stuff anonymously. Those videos were produced with a mixing board, and sometimes decent backup musicians. His voice is a trained voice, that shows signs of constant use in front of a microphone. It's not easy putting together a video as consistently good as his are.

What I really like is his mission. Music is not about listening, music is about playing and singing. He videos the guitar only, and his arrangements are generally simple enough that any amateur guitarist can learn them. Music is really about a jug of cheap wine, a guitar, and songs that everyone can sing.
