Coverit All Weather Shelter - Anyone Have one ?

/ Coverit All Weather Shelter - Anyone Have one ? #11
I made a mistake and didn't buy a Coverit. I bought a cheap version from Menard's Hardware store chain for about $300. It is about 12 by 20. The frame has been up for almost 3 years. The fabric is good for one winter and has been replaced twice so far because it shreds. Right now I am getting ready to replace at least the two ends. Both look ends look like ribbon doors! I am thinking of getting a huge heavy duty tarp and covering the whole thing. I use it to store a collector car that is driven a few times each summer and I wish I had paid more because I sure got what I paid for, which is not much!!! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Pekabu - I bought one of these at BJ's in Newington about 6 weeks ago for $299. To my surprise, when I went to put the fabric on it, it was stamped in two places with the Cover-It label and logo. It seems pretty decent as far as quality, although like another post mentioned, good luck getting those screw anchors into NH soil. I went to Home Depot and got some lengths of pipe and drove them into the ground and secured them. I only plan to use it for a year or two, until I can get a structure built, then I'll probably park the trailer in it to keep the weather off.

Don't know if they use the same type of holes at the bottom edge that you roll under the bottom rail and attach to a upper rail any longer, but if they do, you can use very long wire ties to hook the material to the rail. You can get 3' ties at a A/C supply house. They are used on ductwork.

Thanks for your input folks...

Seems like the weak point is the fabric... starting to deteriorate in 5-8 years or so...

Maybe the extra $$$ for the heavier fabric is worth it... Coverit sells it... web site above in someone's post...

Like others... want shelter until I get a framed garage up... which will be a long process since it's gonna be 180 miles away from where I live... and 1 person doing it...

The other option is to buy a pre-built 1-car garage with the wood floor & have it delivered... but the cost is high... about $6,700 for a 12'w x 32'L x 8-9'H unit...

A round top Coverit 12'w x 36'L x 10'H standard fabric, with anchors and rollup door & tax is $1,430 picked up...

The Coverit is the way to go for me... but kinda worried about snow loads... I won't be there to clear any snow off in VT...
Experiences with snow ?

I'll still have a use for the Coverit shelter after the garage is up...

Thanks...

Get the "Duckbill" anchors from "FarmTek" They come in differant strengths with all the necessary hardware.
Drive them into the ground, give them a pull to rotate the duckbill and then secure the cable tight.
Slick as a Whistle !!!!!

Dave,
I find the construction of these Better Quality shelters quite rugged. I think the round style would be stronger then the house style, which is why I went with it.
I can not attest to the durability with a sustained snow load for I am able to clear mine off when ever necessary. Hopefully you will hear from someone who has left theres with a snow load on it for a period of time.

I purchased a 12wx20lx10h standard fabric with rollup door Coverit shelter this past summer. Should have went to 24 or 28 ft though for extra storage. Paid $780 which included shipping from the factory in CT. I would not buy the $39.95 rollup door if I had to do it again. Its only 2 ropes and pulleys and for much less that that you can get the parts from Home Depot.

Installed it in one afternoon but there are tricks to get it right. In order to get the cover on right I had to get some ratchet tie downs and pull the side poles together to get the correct inside width. I had no problems with the auger anchors but I did have to use a very hefty pry bar to screw them in.

The gun club I belong to has had one of these for a few years now and has had no problem with snow. The round version seems to just shed snow.

One thing that is a concern is moisture. If its not on concrete or asphalt then moisture from the ground builds up inside the shelter and everything stays damp. A side vent would be a good option to purchase.

Overall a good product for the price.

I employ several insurance adjusters in the states of VT and NH. Every time we get a year with a good amount of snow we get many claims submitted by homeowners for collapsed cover-its. The tubular frames bend under the weight of the snow load. I am not talking about every small snow fall but rather the late Feb. or March snows with a bit of rain thrown in for extra weight. The cover it seem ok if the people clear them off but when the snow accumulates thru several storms and then it rains we see the claims come in for the collapses. Of course at that point we also get the collapsed deck and old barn claims to. So if you are not around to clear it off you might want to consider a framed structure of some type. Mike

I have ledge about a 1 1/2' down, the regular anchors wouldn't go in deep enough. I bought rebar and had it cut into 3 to 4 ' lengths and pounded in at an angle and attatched
with cable to frame. I bought the vents they sold the plastic
lasted about 2 years. I replaced them with sewed in heavy
screening it is holding up well. Thank you for the info on the heavy duty fabric I didn't know it was available.

Mark_in_NH...

Do you have a link to "Farm tek"... Coverit's price is $8 for each Duckbill anchor... need 12-14...

Mike D...
Thanks for the heads-up on the collapses...
Now... this makes a Coverit questionable for me... since it would be in VT with me in CT during the winter... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
...guess I could make the 180 mile trip once 'n a while...

Good input from everyone... Thanks...

Anyone have the thicker 22mil fabric ?
