Hi...

I found another shelter manufacturer I'm checking out... ClearSpan here in CT...

Seems their construction & specs are better than Coverit's... and they make the fabric here in Ct & pipe in Indiana? instead of China like Coverit...

I'll go see their models this Friday...

Dave........... got to ask..... where is West Central CT???????
I have seen the other CT manufacturer of "soft sided shelters" and wasn't very impressed with it... one thing that really turned me off was the salesmen bad mouthing the competition. Claimed that "Cover-It" had gone bankrupt and wasn't going to be around very much longer..... that was 2 years ago and I believe that they are both still around.....

Dave,

Sorry about the delay getting back, Yes the heavier covers are worth it, the dealer that I mentioned, who is local to me is very reluctant to sell the standard covers as they are not holding up well at all, less than a year in many cases! Also, read a little further into the posts, but not all of them yet, the screw in ancors are good, but not as good, in my opinion as the cable anchors used with ratchet straps, easier to install and adjust as needed.

Group Buy Maybe? I am looking at a single bay Cover it. Would prefer the non Rounded model, but I am flexible. I live in NH, and for a good deal I would be willing to travel down. Anyway, just a thought.

Dave,

If you do go Cover-It, I would strongly recommend the round style, they shed snow much better, I have some round and some house style. I clean the snow off the house styles and just leave the round alone.. no problems. My first, a 12 x 24 round is still fine after almost 11 years. The only problem is a small hole I put in it when cleaning snow off of it the first year I had it, now I leave it alone and it is fine.

Hi...

Yeah... round style it is... snow is my worry...

I'm gonna look at the ClearSpan shelters tomorrow afternoon... maybe side-by-side with the Coverit...

Some positive points I see so far with ClearSpan vs. Coverit:
10 or 12 once standard fabric vs. 7 once...
galvanized piping vs. powder coated...
swaged pipe connection with clamps vs. holes drilled thru pipes (corrosion)...
4' standard or 3' optional rafter spacing vs. ???...
rachet style anchors for cover to pipe vs. rope...
Made in the USA vs. China...

Maybe a multiple order will get a discount... I'm open to this idea...
No need to pick up from ClearSpan... they charge shipping whether to your place or their CT location... think pipes made in Illinois on Indiana... no sales tax if delivered outside CT...

With the Clear-Span brand you will still be installing screws. They call them "Tek Screws". After you assemble the rafters etc. the instructions will have you install a self tapping tek screw into each joint. The kit comes with all necessary screws and a hex head bit for installation.
When you are assembling the rafters you will want a fairly LARGE open FLAT area otherwise your rafters will end up with a twist to them.

My Clear-Span shelter is the "Classic 2 car" it is 26' wide x 24' deep x 12'high. It cannot !!! be assembled in a day like they say. But it can be assembled alone with out additional help. Well except for the help of a FEL.
I have approx a week of assembly into mine, meaning 2 / 3 hours in the evenings and weekend time. Assembling one of these is most definatly a challange, whether it be alone or with help. It is a huge erector set, but like any traditional building, the final outcome will only be as good as it's foundation. Any un-leveliness or rafters out of plumb at the start will carry on and be amplified near the end.
