CurlyDave, for a firebreak... goats.... goats... goats.... spanish goats... you know the ones that come in lots of colors, short hair. Fence the area properly... keep goats in... they are EXTREMELY HARDY.... water, salt, green stuff to eat.. they will eat everythinbg they can reach standing on their hind legs... it leaves a barren ground area and bare tree trunks up as high as they can reach. Get several nannys and a billy.. you will have a heard (yep, they bleat all the time) explosion, they usually have twins, often triplets... terminally cute little buggers. If coyotes prove to be a problem, get a donkey, they keep coyotes away as well. Cheaper than an exotic critter.
