I think that amount is related to the maximum you can wire via Western Union. WU was always the requested method of payment on the 'deals' I've inquired about. That, or 'the tractor is now in Portugal but we'll deliver it at no cost to you' were the point where I stopped reading the scammers replies at mid-message.

Incidentally - Scammers will sometimes say you should WU the funds but they can't receive them until you inspect the merchandise then email them a 'release' password. Bogus! If you have named the recipient and they show up with ID for that identity they get the funds on the spot. There is no such thing as a Western Union 'release' password.

Last week I had a guy offer the "I'll send you a check and have my mover come pick up the merchandise" trick. He said he needed my name, address, etc. so he could send the check.

I gave him my name as "Not a Stupid Fool". I haven't heard from him since.

i see that too.

someone selling a non running tractgor or vehicle, then says it needs a 10$ item to make it run.. but selling it cheap since non running.

well.. hmm.. if you are selling a 2000$ tractor for 200$ because it won't run because it needs a 10$ switch.. why ot put the switch on and sell it for 2000$?

scam artists and liars...

About once a month I see one like this:

"Tractor for sale $4000

I bought it for $4000 three years ago to clear my land. It ran when parked two years ago. The tires are flat and there is water in the gas tank. I just want my money back."

I've actually sold a few like that, but I always make it clear that I don't know what's wrong other than the obvious. Sometimes I just don't have time to troubleshoot a project and I'm ready to move on to new projects.

Of course I've also bought a few like that and made out pretty well. Sometimes the problem really is some simple part replacement. Sometimes there are a few other issues as well.

I have to laugh at that kind of ad, too. Or there are the people selling used stuff for 90% of new prices. I wonder if anyone ever buys that stuff. I'll see the same ad posted for months at a time.

If something isn't half of new or less, I likely won't consider it.

Had me laughing out loud. I'd want my money back TOO!

8N Ford Tractor
#48N 119390
Mag Ignition
Fairbanks Morse
Type FM
Sherman Tranmission

8n?????

Sure dont look like any 8n's I have seen. And the I-beam radius rods put it @ pre-1944??????

I guess you can take a 2n, and throw an 8n engine in it and it is now magically an 8n tractor I guess????

If I take a ford truck, and do a cummins engine swap, do I get a Dodge truck in return:laughing:

Still not a bad price though if it does have the sherman??

most people don't know the finer points in telling a tractor model from another.

complicate the fact that any 8n, 2n, or 9n engine will fit any of the trannies and it makes it even more of a gamble for a newb.. as the sn is on the engine.. thus an 8n engine on a 2n chassie.. and if the seller/buyer don't know what to look for.. they may think they are getting an 8n.

since the 8n had a front mount and sid emount version, then the mag of a 2n wartime model could be fitted to a frontmount.. or some of the industrial engines also had mags.. so.. it can get confusing to some owners who are not well versed in early ford-ese.

what I love is getting there and seeing a hundred series model being sold as an 8n.. usually goes cheaper.

another odd one is when you can point to the bellhousing and show them the model id number, and they still claim it's another model.

when i bought one of my 850's, the seller swore up and down it was an 8-0-1 model.. I tried to explain 801 was a series from 58-62 and 800 was a series from 55-57, and the middle digit made it a model number, and then pointed to the 8-5-0 on the tractor.. he stubbornly said.. 'no.. it's an 801.. i'm sure of it..' :)

SG, you were taliking about needing small repairs? Like only needs a Battery, or a Tune-up? Or the Carburator needs to be re-assembled and put on.{it's in a Bucket of fuel}..HA HA....But I'll take just $50.00 less than perfect condition price?
