You can get rid of stumps on CL, too.

$1 a pound??!! That's crazy. That's like $2,000 per cord. I'm in the wrong business.

$2000 per cord:confused2: Maybe if you are burning pine or other soft wood.

Hardwoods in our area are 3300-3800lb/cord:D

Years ago in an issue of Sawmill Magazine they talked about sawing stumps... but they had to be "certified" I'm not sure if they were talking about old Cypress stumps or what they were refering to.

My uncle used to saw Cypress stumps into 4" to 6" slabs that he would turn into tables. He made quite a name for himself locally doing it; Paul Harvey stopped by once to order a custom one. They ended up being friends until Paul passed.

That's not quite the "rest of the story" but it's the best I can do.

Yep, a soft wood no doubt.

Major species in my area are

Red Oak...........3570lbs
hickory............4080
sugar maple......3740
Ash.................3485

The lightest woods we have around here are white pine and cottonwood, which are still heavier than that cedar. And no one around here even considers them firewood:confused2:

Yeah, hardwoods have a lot more BTU's per cord. The nearest stand of hardwood to me is half a continent away.

This reminds me, I need to run an ad; "Very nice cherry lumber, still on the hoof waiting for harvest. Free if you come and get it!" I'll throw in the maple, sweet gum and pine!

Fruit woods can actually fetch a good price around here sometimes. Some guys smoke meat with it. Others use it for woodworking. I've done some pretty neat stuff with an old cherry tree that my mother-in-law had cut down at her place. I made a rolling pin for my wife out of the cherry tree that she climbed in as a kid.

I've cut. about 20 an need to cut about 10 more cherry trees, there is pretty heart wood in it but I'm not a wood worker and I can't split it into board anyway.

Most people who are wood workers will want to get the wood as green as they can. Then they can treat the ends to keep it from splitting when drying. Advertising wood on the stump may be your best bet. It all just depends on who is in your area. If there are some creative woodworkers, you may have some takers.
