Creating a Lake

Just went back and looked at the picture you took from the shallow end with Backhoe on the deep end. You can really get a good idea how big this is! Deeper than I thought too! This is very exciting! I feel like asking for pictures as it rises over the tree and island!

hears what you do... find ya a 6' stick. mark a spot on the ground (or set a T post or something) then set the camera on the post/stick on the same spot and shoot the pond every morning and evening roughly the same time.

over a week youll have enough photos to stack and run like a little movie (each photo being a frame) youll see the progress of the lake as it rises.

The pump has been getting worse. It wasn't running this morning when I went down there. I checked the oil, there was plenty, but it was realy dark. It also fired right up, but while I was taking a few pictures, it died on me.

When things start to go wrong or I find I have no idea why it's not working, I resort to reading the instruction. Never before, only after it's not working. hahaha

It said the pump had to be level and that the oil needs to be changed every 100 hours. hmmm. I wasn't doing either.

I changed the oil, leveled it out and started it up again. This time it ran 7 or so hours until dark and hopefully it still running all night tonight!!!!

The pics show the lake as of today.

I had a fairly long length of corugated 4 inch drain pipe laying around that I used to as a temporary extension when the hose was too short. I pretty much ruined it trying to make it water tight, so I figured it might make a good fish "habitrail" type structure for my fish.

I just started cutting lengths and wireing them together with no particular plan other than to create a bunch of hiding places.

Steph and I went down to the lake this morning and the pump was still running!!!

It was either dirty oil or being unlevel. Either way, I think I've figured out that I need to change the oil every four days. hahaha

Thanks for the help and suggestions,
Eddie

Just a thought could it be there is to much pressure from the big gas tank compaired to the little one only inchs above the carb on the pump? Maybe floooding it out or the needle valves not working correctly?

Jamie,

I don't know this for a fact, but my understanding on gravity fed lines is the size of the hose determines how much preasure you have. I shouldn't matter if I have one gallon or 100, it should all be the same amount of preasure.

I was concerned that the longer length of hose and the automotive fuel filter was restricting the amount of fuel I was getting or creating air pockets. I don't know how that would work either, but since my problems started after I changed fuel tanks, I thought there was a connection.

Now that it's running good, I don't believe the fuel tank was part of the problem. I think it was just a lack of experience and knowledge on my part.

Thanks,
Eddie
