$1256 in "cash back"? What % do those cards give you as a reward? I am not sure how much I could get as cash back if I used such a card, because the only real expenses I have that a card could be used for are groceries and gasoline and diesel fuel. Last year I spent $4340 on groceries and $860 on gasoline and diesel fuel. So, $5200.00 total. My Chase card gives me a whopping 1% cash back on purchases. The thing is, because I pay cash for groceries I am much more careful about what I am buying. Pay cash and I will buy ground round. Charge it, and I would probably buy T-bones and shrimp cocktail which I cannot afford.
I think the bottom line is everyone needs to find a system that works well for them and stick to it.
You'd get about $50 bucks back on your card. That's a lot of free root beer.
We pay for groceries, gas, insurance, taxes, high school and college tuition, doctors, entertainment... pretty much everything, on the card or some other sort of rebate program. Every penny that you get back counts.
Plus, you get a nice itemized list of what you purchased. If you plug that into home banking software, it can show you exactly what you are spending your money on in easy-to-read chart form. Kinda interesting for anyone that may not have a handle on exactly where there money goes.
