Doubt it, no surcharge will come close to the $$ saved by shopping around/online. Maybe the "local economies" should try to price their products to compete a little better. I don't mind spending a little extra to help out the community but I won't spent twice as much so the local hardware store owner can buy a bigger boat..

I hope the surcharge is across the board and higher ,Maybe it will get people to shop locally and pay cash and help local economies instead of Amazon

I patronize the locally owned businesses as often as possible... Although I'm a prudent shopper I don't mind paying a little more at the local hardware/building supply stores etc over the chains...I do buy a lot of things off e-bay (rarely use Amazon)...mostly because I don't like driving long distances to a large city to find what I need/want...

I thought they weren't allowed to do that...

The new law went into effect Jan. 27 2013 that allows merchants to charge a 4% fee for accepting credit cards...

one benefit of not handling so much cash is it's safer in flu season...and I use my own pen/stylus to sign for stuff...

Ya know, I never thought about that. I always carry my own pen (habit from the Air Force) but never thought about the stylus. Guess I'll have to look for one on AMAZON now..

look for a combination pen/stylus combination... Amazon has them but check e-bay first...I like using PayPal it's more secure IMO...

I think the small mom & pop stores will/perhaps charge the surcharge, I do not see the large chain stores and most of the stuff on the Internet adding the surcharge. But if they do I will just do business with those that do not add the $$.

I feel the same way. But in reality the retailer is making it up somewhere and im sure its added into the prices.Like when a retailer says free shipping. its added in.

That's inflation, caused by printing and spending money on credit...remember the stimulus bill? we only have the perpetrators to blame...

I had some older friends that had mom and pop shops. They would give you a discount if you paid cash instead of credit card because of the charges they had to eat with the CC company. Since they provided outstanding service, I didn't mind the inconvenience of having to bring cash. Needless to say, all of them are now out of business due to old age, large chain competition and children that had no interest in continuing the family business.
