What I find frustrating is that when I was truck shopping 5 years ago Toyotas in my preferred price range were sky high even with 200K miles, because they had new frames; so I bought a low mileage Ranger instead. Fast forward 5 years, I got my Ranger set up the way that I wanted it (except it doesn't have the front winch) and it's still relatively low mileage but the frame is soft. So I just bought a nice Colorado which I like, but it's a fluff truck which will stay on the highway... whereas I could take my Ranger out through the woods and not worry about scratching it, getting stuck, or ripping the stupid plastic spoiler and mud flaps off.

Yes we called the Toyota rep and he said he had to back his dealer up. I do have to give them credit for extending the warranty 10 years for this problem but I'm still upset that they sent me down the road for 10 days difference, especially under the circumstances, but that's life and it's not always fair.

I own a Kia Serrento, bought used still under warranty.
Nice car with all that I need.

BUT
3-4 days after warranty expired (mea culpa) I went to dealer as I had a frequent right rear 'thump' on rough roads.
Annoying but I knew not a serious matter

They replaced a link, charged me $100. or so and as I drove away 'thump, thump' again.
Maddening since but a few days out of warranty.
I still have that link, and there is nothing wrong with it !
OH, the offered to re install my link for another fee.

Later when I had my Kia on a lift I discovered what caused the thumping.
It was the tail pipe that would hit the dealer installed trailer hitch on rougher roads.

I cured the problem by simply clamping a piece of hard rubber around the hitch.
While not excellent it 'softened' the thump somewhat.

I contacted a company the other day for product support. Got to a person but it was a woman with a Spanish accent. She wasted 30 minutes of mine and the tech person's time trying to intermediate the request and resolution. She would ask me a question. put me on hold, relay the answer to the tech guy, then come back and ask me another question. FINALLY she just connected the two of us and we had it resolved in less than 5 minutes. I just don't understand why a company would have such a policy?

Just went through that with Amerigas, trying to contact them to get my propane tank (their tank) filled. Called their local number just as I've done for many, many years. This time I got to listen to a 5 minute spiel on coronavirus and how the local office is no longer allowing walk-in customers. Then it went on to tell me if I wanted to arrange for a propane delivery to go on line. Finally, right at the end of this long dissertation I was told that if because of my problem I needed to talk to a real person to press 8, which I did. That connected me to an Amerigas call center somewhere in California....guess I need to buy my own propane tank and get away from Amerigas.

I had problem years ago with Amerigas. Called for a tank fill, they didn't show up, called again, couldn't get a hold of them. Multiple calls, no response. Zero degree weather and the tank running very low. Finally I called heir national emergency number and they finally came out. A 1000 gallon tank had 1.5 gallons left :( I changed suppliers after that.

Around 1980 my parents owned a small town cafe for a year and they turned into a thriving business. The first Thanksgiving my dad wanted to have a free meal to their patrons on the day before Thanksgiving. His main cook, who had been there with the previous owners, scoffed at the idea. Why should we give food away? Dad told her he could buy a little ad in a local paper and not really know if it did anything or not for his money spent. He then told the story when he was out of the Army and delivering milk. This distant small town cafe did such a thing and it stuck in his head all those years. He kept the costs low on that meal by talking to his suppliers for the best deal. It was a success. Oh sure there were some people who probably showed up that had never eaten there but months later people were still talking about it. I think my folks really enjoyed that business but finding reliable help and working really long days because they couldn't find a decent manager did them in. They sold it for a profit.

The only company that I seen really stand behind their product is Toyota.....

Don't even get me started on that slimeball company. I've had 2 of their products (well, one was a company truck) and will never ever have another. That company knows every trick in the book on how to jerk you around (and some tricks that aren't even in the book). Someone else mentioned silent recalls, which seems to be a specialty of theirs to give the illusion their vehicles are so much more reliable and trouble free than others.

Not that automakers in general win many points for integrity, but toyota's at the bottom of my list.

GM does the silent recalls too.

Toyota once ripped my old Mom off, Doing an expensive brake job on her barely used, city driven Camry. Nothing scares an old woman more than talk of her brakes needing "service".

It seems many people confuse the manufacturer and the dealer which are 2 different things.

I guess even if one buys $100's of thousands dollars worth of woods equipment one can still get bad customer service but once a bad service story starts going public things start changing for the better. I still think good customer service starts at the top, maybe thats way JD got more involved after 3 months....
