Automatic oiler the only way to go make sure the tank is full and let her eat give it grease when you are supposed to and there should be no trouble

Automatic chain oiler will accelerate chain/sprocket wear where I live. BTDT and couldn't keep chains/sprockets a JD 435. That's when I started using motorcycle chain lube. Plus the oil and hay chaff combined make excellent fuel for a FIRE.

Exactly why we have fire extinguishers on every tractor however knock on wood we have never had a baler fire but we have had fires on both our feed mixers an our bale grinder

Believe me a rd baler fire will get ones heart rate UP!!!!! I had the misfortune several years back for a baler to burn. I though 3 different times I had the fire extinguished but then I ran out of water in my fire extinguisher and it was time to unhook the tractor and save it. I now add "Fire Out"(I think that's the name) to the water. My baler that burned was the one with the chain oiler but I had long before the fire stopped using the oiler.

Yeah that's what happened with our bale grinder. We thought we had it out then bame flames again. Got tractor off it an used a drain to drag it to the field away from barn

If you have sandy conditions, pony up and buy O-ring chains. Use a motorcycle chain lube or in a pinch, WD-40 just to keep the rust away. The O-ring chains are internally lubed.

That sounds like a resonable solution.

And ALWAYS, put on new sprockets with new chains. Worn sprockets will ruin a new chain and vice versa.

Are you implying o-ring chain will last at least 4 times longer as regular chain. O-ring seal lubrication won't keep the rollers from wearing on sprockets. Will o-ring lubrication keep chain cooler? The chains on a JD rd baler will get "HOT" even with motorcycle chain lube applied.

I don't think they would last that much longer. I don't see how they would run cooler.
