I'm sure it can happen butt we have had oiler on last two balers and no problem. Just make sure you keep dust cleaned out an don't let it build up

Yep. Small gas powered quincy air compressor is 1 of thebest investments I have made

If your baling sandy soils, sand will get everywhere and premature wear. No way around it. Yes, if you keep the chain oiled, it will attract and hold sand, but if just WD-40, it will just get pulverized or fall off.

Here's the deal between the O-ring and non O-ring, A chain wears more from the inside if non Oring and it will stretch. This stretching is what wears out your sprockets because a stretched chain no longer fits. I would say an Oring chain will last at least twice as long in a sandy environment. Now you have to decide if your labor, trip to the store, shipping whatever is worth it. If you have a long off season with nothing to do, go the cheap route. Some people get a whole bunch of bales on standard chain. But sand changes everything.

Under my best assumption you are talking about roller chain correct. With chain stretch shoot not suppose to tighten chain where it is muscled tight anyway that's hard on bearings etc. if any are around and in most cases there are. Not to mention shafts as well that is here common sense comes into play

Checked out the o-ring chain see but wow why not just run a normal chain and give the machine the attention that it needs when it needs it and go on. Wear items will always wear just need maintained.

Are you implying o-ring chain will last at least 4 times longer as regular chain. O-ring seal lubrication won't keep the rollers from wearing on sprockets. Will o-ring lubrication keep chain cooler? The chains on a JD rd baler will get "HOT" even with motorcycle chain lube applied.

How much do all the sprockets cost?

I realize chain stretch(wear in pins & rollers) wears on sprockets but so does heat and just plain ole use. Then one throws in the sandy soil where I live and it would interesting to see if o-ring chains are worth the extra cost. Yes I know sprockets are high but what isn't??
