Mig weld the holes, Bore close on any old Bridgeport mill then finish hone that cylinder......DONE!

I've bored old Volvo engines on my mill with great success. These were clunkers with many miles on them.

Practice mig welding on some old brake discs then have at it.

I'm with you. Weld the hole, machine and good to go.

If you mig weld cast iron, better have carbide. HSS wont touch it. And I think I'd rather have something more than an "any old bridgeport" for boring a block.

On second thought. take it to the machine shop for $400. Why risk trying to save $400 and chance ruining a $3200 block?

I'd be the LAST guy to blow 3200 on a new block. It's his machine. He owns it. He will make the decision.

Myself? I would be creative and spend the coin for an implement or college fund for his kids.

The holes are low in the bore and little pressure is there as the exhaust valve is opening near that area of the bore.

Buying a 3200 new block would be the exact outcome.

$400 is a much wiser move and let a pro handle this one
