Dangerous times even in small town

My friend in PA once told me how amused he was that his Glock was pointed at the person sitting behind him in the theater. That's not the most comforting thought, although I agree with the right to arm oneself.

I have never had a concealed weapon permit. The wife and I both took the required safety course back in the 80s but just never applied. I carried a weapon in my glove box for years but stopped when I got a job at a state university. At the time it was illegal to have a weapon in your vehicle on university property. Since I retired I just never started to carry again. Thank goodness I have got by all these years without ever needing to defend myself by lethal means.

Folks that carry need to be careful they are not mistaken for the perp when the law arrives. Don't brandish your weapon and by all means don't run away when they show up. That way your family won't have to wonder WHY you got shot by the police.

There were a couple of reports of two men trying to abduct women in our Big Lots parking lot last week. Fortunately the women walked away and the men didn't force them. Had another report of a man parked in a church parking lot that asked some children what was going on inside but he didn't get out or attempt an abduction. Just never know peoples intentions and when they might strike.

Perps always have the element of surprise. Even armed your chances of protection or retaliation are limited.

My wife and I also have had CCPs for years. Never have carried though. Not yet anyway.

Just remember, things can and do go south in a hurry even for the good guys. Just recently a good guy with a gun was mistakenly shot and killed by a cop in a mall related shooting.

The biggest reason for not carrying full time was lack of a comfortable holster. I have about a dozen different types but none were really comfortable. Finally my neighbor found an elastic belly band type that is really comfortable and holds just about any pistol and all for only $20 with free shipping. I immediately ordered one for myself.

I'd be interested in a link or the name of the holster as well.

The problem the way I see it, is if you own anything or have any money, and you go and shoot someone, you stand to loose a lot in legal fees defending yourself. Maybe, WAY, WAY more than anything a burglar might have taken from you.

I don't carry due to fear of being robbed. If a guy want's my wallet and I'm carrying a gun, he can have my wallet no worries and no problems on my end. Heck, whatever money in my wallet probably isn't worth the money in it if I actually had to shoot the robber in the first place.

I carry a gun in case the robber wants more than my wallet or in case of nut jobs on the streets who don't care what harm they cause, including killing others they don't know.

A guy would be smart to carry two wallets. One with a bit of cash, old expired DL and credit cards!

We've had a couple abductions happen during the day here. Both from busy parking lots in shopping centers in town. Both ended in tragedy.

Both were gang initiations.

Our issue here is unaffiliated gangs. A group of kids forming a gang in the city, but no leadership or organization like in the bigger known gangs that are out there.

The kids are going out and doing random drive by shootings, as well as just shooting up a random vehicle on the interstate.

Wife and I both have our CC permits. Wife also has a military grade taser that she carries in her pocket. Next gun show, we are gonna pick up a few more tasers for our daughter and daughters in laws to carry with them.

I wish they would go ahead and release some info on that. Early reports are the "good guy" had a permit and a weapon but was shot running away. I don't know how else the police are expected to act when they arrive at an active shooter scene and see a guy with a weapon running away.

I've often thought how tough it would be when confronted with different situations.
For example...the girl who was mugged, when do you pull the trigger if the perp is unarmed?
You hear a noise at night, see someone walking down your driveway carrying your television...sould you shoot the perp in the back?
Certainly if someone is breaking into my house I can't assume they're unarmed and I would shoot to kill.
There was one strange case a few years ago where an elderly man living alone was robbed. Things stolen from his home while he was away. He figured out who it was, a guy and girl neighbors. So he waited with his gun correctly assuming they would return which they did. When they broke in he shot and killed them both. He was then tried, convicted and sentenced of murder and is in prison still.
I support our second amendment 100%, but it gets really sticky knowing WHEN to pull the trigger.
