Escaped Jail inmate apparently went to the wrong women's house and kicked in the door. He is "paid for".

South Carolina woman kills escaped jail inmate who kicked down her door, sheriff says | Fox News

This is one of the rare instances where the person doing the shooting in protection of their life has NOTHING to worry about.

You have a big arse SOB with neck tats who is in jail on some basic burglarly charges and he beats up a guard with another inmate to escape from jail, and then he breaks into your home? This is what you call having no brains, and you're going to do something stupid to other people because you don't care and don't have any brains. Prime example of why EVERY woman should know how to use a gun.

This must be what you are referring to.

Alabama Stand Your Ground - Castle Doctrine Law

Even if you are justified, You can expect a lawsuit.

I would highly recommend you to look into either USCCA, or SDA insurance in case you have to defend yourself. It's cheaper than you would pay in attorney fees
If you are justified by the law you are immune from prosecution and civil charges. However you must use common sense in any situation, I would not use deadly force unless I or family was in unavoidable danger.

Well, you must be charged, go to court and ruled by a judge as a justifiable .
If the DA reviews your case and decides not to prosecute due to the shooting being justified under the stand your ground law, or self defense law, You can still be sued civilly

I always carry, everywhere I go, except inside the place I work. Even when letting the dogs out to pee, I strap on my chest holster.

Lately been getting a little lazy with that last one.

Last night I was going to let our old girl (boxer dog) out for her last pee, unleashed of course (I live in the country on a bit of property). At the last minute prior to exiting my front door I slipped my shoes off and strapped the glock on.

We exited the house, turned the corner toward the field, and the light from my headlamp picked up a black shape by our burn barrel, just out of range of the motion lights on our garage. A 300-400lb black bear stopped in his tracks to check us out.

I immediately grabbed old girl by her collar (she has no idea she is no match for pretty much anything at this point) with my left hand, right hand went to the grip of the glock. After about 5 seconds Mr. Bear decided to continue his walk toward the bottom of our field (thankfully).

You just never know when you may need your equalizer, even in your own yard, which is why I operate like I do. Working in my line of work for almost 24 years (corrections) has no doubt influenced my way of thinking.

Not fear, preparedness.

This is the next county to me. Obviously been on the news a lot. Here's an excerpt from this morning's local paper. Mclaughlin was the intruder and Dill was his fellow escapee who didn't go in the house but got caught down the road when the police came. I love that the Sherriff is encouraging people to get their CCW.

"Evidence confirmed the door at the Meece Mill Road home was kicked in. Clark said the escapee was near the homeowner痴 bedroom door when he was shot. Evidence suggested McLaughlin had armed himself with a 12-inch-long metal knife-sharpening tool taken from the woman痴 kitchen, he said.

典he homeowner had no other escape or route to get out of there, Clark said.

He said one shot was fired from a handgun owned by the woman, who is a trained concealed weapons permit holder.

Clark said the homeowner did not know McLaughlin.

典hey never met in their life, Clark said.

McLaughlin was in jail on charges of burglary and grand larceny from September.

滴e痴 a felon, Clark said. 滴e痴 known to us for quite a while.

Dill was incarcerated on a criminal sexual conduct with a minor charge from July.

All information relevant to the case will be forwarded to the 13th Circuit Solicitor痴 Office for legal review.

Clark praised the homeowner, whose name has not been released, for 都aving her life.

典he victim was in fear for her life and she may have used lethal force to protect herself, he said. 典he sheriff痴 office has not uncovered any evidence or information in any way that would suggest anything different.

Clark encouraged residents, especially women, 鍍o get your CWP.

釘e trained in your weapon, he said. 鉄hoot it often at the local range or where you can. She saved her own life because she took half a day out of her life and went and got training. She set herself up to be able to protect herself. She came out on the good end on this, and the other guy, the bad guy, didn稚.

Laws are different in every state. Here in Alabama we have what is called a castle law, it applies to your home or vehicle. If they break into either one with you in it , you have the right to use deadly force.

In CO we also have castle doctrine, but the person breaking in must use some type of force against you, however slight. So they could touch you and that is enough. In TX unless they have changed, you can even shoot people to protect property. Just be sure you know your laws verbatim, or ask a lawyer.

The first day my daughter drove by herself after getting he license at 17, she went to Target. For years I've been teaching her about safety, stranger and how this is NOT a friendly world that all kids think it is. Sure I sounded like every "paranoid" Dad telling her about this or that when she gets out on her own.

Sure enough within an hour of her leaving she was on the phone to be crying. Apparently as she was leaving Target a lady approached her for a "ride" and she refused and the lady persisted. She looked over at her vehicle and there was a van parked next to it, so she turned around and went back inside ( like Dad taught her ). Turns out they were a team, the lady and the men inside the van as she saw them all drive off together. She said they were actual gypsies. I flew up there running every red light and breaking every speed law between the store and our house. She was hysterical, and wasn't able to drive si I drover her home and went with the wife later to pick up her car.

She has NEVER rolled her eyes once since that day as I continue to give her life lessons. Kids need to learn on their own as words mean nothing to them, and I'm not so sure I was any different.

Yep... Dad was always giving instructions... like don't do something stupid or give someone an excuse... trouble on the streets of East Oakland growing up was a fact of life... thankfully, Dad did a good job and situations avoided or defused...

Here's an interesting question.
For years I ran a business in the city, good central location but not the best location. I had lots of police customers who couldn't understand why I didn't have a gun at work.
My reasoning was this...I would have to have it in hand, ready to fire as I approached every customer! Thankfully I was never robbed but I reasoned a thief would have had their gun drawn before I would have a chance to draw.
The world's fastest draw wouldn't stand a chance facing someone already gun drawn.
A carry permit can be handy if one is threatened but even that can happen within 2-3 seconds.

McLaughlin was in jail on charges of burglary and grand larceny from September.

Even a "non-violent" offender like McLaughlin, once he broke into the lady's home made the decision to arm himself and go approach her bedroom door where she was hiding. He made the decision that ended his life.

You might reconsider using a handgun on a bear. I read a study (years ago) of 57 encounters between someone with a handgun vs. a bear. All 57 people were killed-- and the bear was often killed but not before doing in the human.

I carry "bear spray" when on the property while bears are roaming around. It is a close-in defense only, as it has limited range. But I would not hesitate to use it compared to being very leery of using a handgun ...
