Digga’s halo option would help digging plumb from the operator seat without an assistant. Railroad crossties were a tight fit in a 1’ hole. Wish I had something like that years ago. Hillside drilling always a challenge.

My SSQA PHD spins way slower than my 3pt ever did. If I recall 8gpm at 2,500psi is 18hp. So at best most CUTS are putting out 18hp to a 3rd function, likely a fair bit less with hydraulic losses. Your average CUT 3pt will be 20+. So you are loosing power & RPMs. I find the down pressure makes up for it in hole digging speed though. Not to mention ease of hitching.

Update, today put the auger to work. Knocked out two 4' deep holes for 10' gate entry posts in 20 minutes. My free spotter also paid dividends. Very happy with the first work performance of the auger. Will see what we get into tomorrow but today was a great first showing. This is light years better than the rigmarole of renting a piece of equipment. After the auger, swapped to forks to carry the poles to the entry and get them concreted in.

Glad you are enjoying your new auger. I do not float the loader, I apply intermittent down pressure as required to keep it digging. I don't have the visibility issues you mention other than the fore /aft being difficult to estimate. My auger has a swinging level on the motor that gets me started, and I can stay straight from that point.
Never tried mounting the auger on the side because I don't like the idea of stressing the loader arms unevenly.
