Daylight Saving Time

( I can't see one. It would wreak havoc on business. It is easier to just assign time zones and then keep them there.)

Why would it cause havoc? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif It should make it easier in fact. Say you are dealing with a vendor in asia, and you need to schedule a video conference. Today, you need to figure out a time /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif, and that involves calculating a time difference between your location, and theirs. Then one person needs to remember the time scheduled as 10:00 am local, and the other needs to remember to be available at 9:00 pm local. If you were both on the same time (global, GMT, UCT, zulu, etc) then all you need to tell each other is "talk to you at 1300 on the 15th."

There is a very good reason the US military and scientists use a standardized time reference.

Yep and boy is it a pain to go thru 3 or 4 time zones in one day. Man did we get bumed on the mid watch... When you had to add an hr or 3.... Doggin the watch and all that.... Not changing zones would have been nice... But when the Cap'n says change the Chronometer we changed the Chronometer...

De followen is fer ye land lubbers..../forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
A chronometer is a clock designed to have sufficient long-term accuracy that it can be used as a portable time standard on a vehicle, usually in order to determine longitude by means of celestial navigation.

"In a state as small as Indiana, we should all be on the same time all year."

I agree...and would prefer Central Time year 'round. It's tough when large cites in two different time zones are just across your state line and you have people living here but working and shopping and finding their entertainment just across the line.

Hopefully that won't be in the middle of the night on one end of the conversation. The only way your idea will work is if at 12:00 noon WORLD TIME everyone eats lunch regardless of night/day, etc.

GMT or Zulu time is already well known, so if your idea was a good one, we would be using that instead.

I would still like to here how a 1 time zone system would be better than multiple time zones.

By using time zones and assuming other businesses open at 0800, I can usually figure out what is the best time for me to call a company and do business. If there were no time zones, how could I even guess when a business opens in another part of the world? I'd have to know their hours of business in advance. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

ALL the time should be the same, this thing about some states changing and some not is PIA my daughter in ARIZONA does not chang , so sometimes she is 2 hrs behind us and sometimes 3 hours, but my son in nevada is always 3 hours behind. same thing when my daughter was at NOTRE DAME.

Frank, as bad as that is, there are places where it's worse.

With all due respect to our friend from Australia, I'd say their time zones represent one way that things could be worse. Think about this;

Perth 7AM, Brisbane 9AM, Adelaide 9:30AM, Sidney, Canberra, Melbourne 10AM

Yes, folks... they have HALF HOUR jumps! All of a sudden things don't seem so bad here, do they? /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Jumping in this thread a bit late - but I hate the change back to standard time! I figure it may as well be dark on my way to work - what do I care if the sun is out when I'm on someone else's time???!!. I want it to be light when I get home! I got tractor work to do!

So I decided, I'm not changing, and the rest of the world can just deal with it!

Now, about this cold weather thing.......

If I were you, I would go to work from 9p to 5a and that way you can have all the daylight hours for yourself. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
