Rather harsh. I guess that company likes getting sued for unlawful termination. Unless there was something very damaging to the company or proprietary on the screen, I cant see that termination holding water in a court case.
Employment is "at will" in 50 of the 57 states (and a few more to go). That means that there is no such thing as, "unlawful termination" except for certain protected classes in some states. If it can be shown that termination was due to being a member of such a class (race, creed, whistle-blower, etc.) then there is cause for action. Otherwise, they can fire you for picking your nose with your left forefinger instead of your right pinkie, and it's perfectly legal. If the boss walks in one day and doesn't like your Washington Redskins bumper sticker, he can fire you for it.
