Death and social media ettiquette

Ah, the irony. A bunch of folks saying they don't use social media on a social media site.

You need to get acquainted with the definition of "social media".

This is not social media. It's a forum. Like chat rooms (which are not forums), they have been around since the dawn of the Internet, long before social media was invented.

My wife and I were in a restaurant last night........there was a table of four on one side......all four were texting on their phones.....no talking. At another table......there were three people......two were texting and one was watching football. I ordered another beer and talked to my wife.......I must be weird.

My High School niece and her friends were in a dance recital Sunday... the kids did a really good job and after a group of 10 of us went to dinner... 6 teens and 4 adults... the teens spent a lot of time on their smart phones but not all the time... maybe 50/50

What I thought was odd is they would text each other across the table... maybe silence is golden?

I'm sorry for the op's (and others) situations.

But, newspapers are dying by the day. Our small newspaper is only printed once a week. So they tape death notices to the grocery store checkout lanes and hope the word gets out. Many people miss out on funerals unknowingly.

I get on FB maybe once every few months.

Texting is turning our youth into social introverts.

Several years ago my wife and I had dinner at a nice restaurant in downtown Kansas City. Shortly after we sat down a young couple with a boy maybe 6 sat down nearby. The man arrived with his nose stuck in a phone and spent the whole dinner like that. He did not say a word to either the woman or the boy. They finished and left before we did. The woman and boy had a lot to say to each other but the man never looked up from his phone except to fork up some food.

There was a time when every home got at least one paper....

Mom still gets two... I tried to cancel one and they called so it is back... to be fair she takes it over to the 93 year old neighbor around 8:30 each morning where it is also appreciated.

I think only 10% of the neighbors get any paper... and my Dad was a carrier for the same paper when he was 10...
