The MX5100 has spur gear drive on the rear axles and this is also what the LXXXX series Kubotas have. The MXXXX series have a planetary drive that is a little beefier. That said both are dependable systems. I have a L4400HST and it is very similar to the MX series machines. The MX machines have a stronger loader and a beefier front axle. If I were going to buy today I would get the MX5100HST. I am not a fan of the electronics of the grand L machines.
